Landen had indeed spent the entire day in the Imperial Capital. By the time he returned to Padmira Castle, dinner was long over. Sitting leisurely on the sofa in the lord's chambers, he ate the snacks the kitchen had just sent up.
After these hectic past few days, Landen realized that whether or not he was ready, the Imperial Capital, the Royal Capital, and even his own subordinates had all come to assume that his territory had entered a period of peace.
The allies who had once backed him wholeheartedly against the Beastmen and placed their absolute trust in him—Red Dragon Rock and Dragon Tooth City—might change their attitudes because of promises he had made to a certain department or a certain Legend.
"Things in this world always go wrong because you're in me, and I'm in you." Landen shook his head helplessly. "We distrust one another, rely on one another, and undermine one another. I'm afraid my relationship with them will be like that from now on."
"My lord? You wanted to see me?" Pete Bristle-Wolf's voice came from outside the door.
It wasn't only the allies. Even the subordinates who had once been ready to sacrifice everything for the territory were growing lazy and slack. To them, the war between the Dragon Race and the Sea Race was no more than a backdrop to the times.
