"Landen, why are you still here?"
Outside the Grand Council, while Landen and Angzang Zhuoqin were locked in a bitter confrontation, Ben Kaul came over.
As soon as Ben saw Angzang, he greeted him politely. "Well, if it isn't Lord Angzang! I heard you just returned from the south."
"Ah, you must be Lord Ben Kaul?" Angzang looked Ben over. "I haven't been back to the Imperial Capital in centuries, so I don't recognize many people. You look so much like Master Kaul. No wonder your family made you a Legend."
"Thank you," Ben said coldly. "Master Klein has something to discuss with Landen. We'll be going now."
With that, Ben led Landen away, leaving Angzang behind.
Landen followed Ben to the Teleportation Hall outside the Grand Council. As they walked, he asked, "This Angzang sounds familiar, but I just can't remember where I heard his name."
Ben said expressionlessly, "The Empire once had a department dedicated to investigating nobles: the Tribunal, predecessor to the Palace Front Department. He was the Tribunal's last chief inquisitor."
Ben's reminder made Landen suddenly understand. "Oh, now I remember. Albert and you both mentioned him before. He apparently offended a whole lot of nobles, right?"
"That's right. In God Emperor Year 699, Angzang discovered a case of collusion with devils and treason in the southern coastal states. It involved a great many nobles and even led to a standoff between the Legends within the Council." Ben Kaul made no attempt to hide what had happened back then.
"Later, Master Klein personally led a group of Legends to investigate the southern coastal states. He concluded that Koppel Hurricane, then the Tribunal's Grand Inquisitor, and the investigator Angzang Zhuoqin lacked sufficient evidence.
