On this moonless and starless night, a fierce wind and torrential rain swept across the land, and in the darkness, only the faint glow of lights scattered across Freeport could be seen.

Thousands upon thousands of monsters, their bodies encased in exposed flesh, tumors, ligaments, and mucous membranes, staggered through the streets of Freeport like writhing shadows. Their rotting vocal cords emitted mournful wails, their pitiful souls groaning in the imprisonment and enslavement of the Swarm's will.

They wandered around like lost souls, pounding on the windows of Freeport residents with their enormous claws, or baring their fangs and claws at any living person they came into view.

Fortunately, the people in Freeport hadn't slept because of what had happened that day, and every household still had the weapons they used to make a living in the outer star systems. Gunshots rang out all around, and many people even used incendiary forks and gas canisters.

Although these infected humans are extremely terrifying, enough to make even the bravest soul scream, they are not actually very fast and strong hunters, and their carapaces and exoskeletons are not particularly sturdy, but their advantage lies in their inexhaustible numbers.

Mayor Nicholas let out a scream and desperately tried to crawl into his house, but the old miner held him tightly. "Looks like we don't need to notify the townspeople anymore."

"Has the Terran Empire responded? Freeport won't last long. Dealing with this monster requires a real army," Buren shouted to Nicholas, never before had he so hoped for the arrival of the Terran Empire.

In this town, only Nicholas still knows how to tinker with those dilapidated communication devices, while Becca Rowe hasn't been in contact with other worlds for many years.

"I think it should be soon." Nicholas was both frightened and embarrassed, like a schoolboy making a public apology. "An operator told me that the Imperial Air Force would arrive in a minute at the latest, and their military airbase isn't far from here."

"Anyway, I just hope these Imperial troops won't burn Freeport down while they're clearing out the Zerg." The old miner muttered as he loaded his shotgun.

"You're young people, you don't know what the Terran Confederacy did back then. When a cholera outbreak occurred on a planet, they wiped out everyone on it."

"I can't worry about that now." Buren's intuition told him that what the old miner said was probably true. If the Zerg infection was truly incurable, then destroying the entire Freeport along with these monsters was indeed the right choice.

The operator wasn't lying to Nicholas. Less than a minute later, the Terran Empire's fighter jets broke through the storm from the north of Freeport, like three shooting stars rising from the horizon, followed by another row of blue flames, and then a huge iron bird with wings that looked like it had spread its flames.

Only then did Buren and the others get a clear look at the Valkyrie above them, which was completely covered in tendons and tissues. They saw that large numbers of Infested Terran were spewing out from the cracks in its hull, like a garbage ship dumping trash and waste.

There were more than a dozen such terrifying spaceships above Freeport. Deep within the clouds, a massive shadow was still slowly moving.

They appear to be giant, living flying creatures, proliferating nitrogen sacs, bizarre sail-like fins, and jet pipes instead of engines. And although these infected ships may no longer have operators, they can still use weapons that have become integrated with the ship's cabin and moving tentacles to attack the brave pilots of the Terran Empire's Wraith.

As the two Wraith climbed, they locked onto the infected Valkyrie above Buren's head. Multiple Gemini Missiles were launched and hit the target accurately, the explosions producing an unusually bright light.

This Fleets, composed entirely of infected human ships, was not escorted by the most common Zerg air force units, such as the Mutalisk and Scourge. As soon as they encountered the Terran Empire's fighter formations, they quickly climbed to altitude and moved away from Freeport.

Meanwhile, more than a dozen heavy APOD-33 and G-226 transport ships landed in Freeport. At this time, the ground was covered with Infested Terran, and each transport ship was crushed upon landing.

One of the transport ships landed near Nicholas's mayor's hut. -- This mayor was an extremely clever fellow; he had planted the town's only Terran Empire flag on his house because he had heard that trained professional soldiers would rather die than let their flag be tarnished.

Once the transport ship landed, landing gear and gangways immediately deployed from both sides. Leading the way were the Firebat, clad in heavy red Power Armor. The insignia on their shoulder armor identified them as Blue Devil Firebats, a naming style reminiscent of Brigadier General Harnack Hank of the Terran Imperial Marine Corps.

Next up are the fully armed Marines, in standard Imperial Red paint, equipped with M93 riot shields made of 25mm bonded carbide with an anti-corrosion electroplating layer, designed specifically to combat the Zerg's acid.

Among them was even a gigantic bipedal walking mech that stood 24 feet tall (the Warhound prototype was over 7 meters), almost the size of a two-story building. Perhaps only the United Earth Directorate's Super Goliath Armed Robot could compare to it.

By this time, the Warhound had undergone multiple generations of iterative improvements to its prototype models, and was very close to the Warhound mech when it was officially finalized. Several super-giant Warhound, specially designed for special missions, could even exceed thirty feet (9 meters), making them veritable Giant. The Imperial Warhound was equipped with a shoulder-mounted missile launcher, arm-mounted rockets, and railguns, and its entire body was covered with composite terracotta armor.

The Warhound's operating servo system has undergone rapid advancements, employing a more sophisticated neural launch control system. Pilots utilize numerous internal parallel neural interfaces to control limb movements and weapon usage. In other words, they are one with the armor, freeing them from wasting energy on controlling the mechs and allowing them to focus solely on one task—destroying the enemies of the Terran Empire.

This is inseparable from the unremitting efforts of the entire scientific and technological research and development and military engineers. The past ten years since the Guild Wars have been a decade of rapid technological development for the Terran Confederacy and even the other two Human Regime. There are new technologies, new patents and new weapons almost every day, which is more than the sum of the past century.

"Only thirty years have passed, and the equipment used by the army now is completely different from what it was when I was young." Old miner Rustin is one of the few original residents of Becca Row who is still alive today. Compared to Buren, who was born and raised here, his shock is even greater.

Thirty years ago, the military of the Terran Confederacy was still using Exoskeleton Armor; Power Armor was a completely novel, futuristic concept. But Exoskeleton Armor alone was more than enough to deal with internal rebellions, and at that time, the relationship between the Terran Confederacy and the surrounding Human Regime was not as tense as it is now.

Power Armor, massive mechs, even the medical personnel are wearing heavy armor and carrying rocket launchers. How did the world become like this? What kind of enemy is humanity facing?

"Open fire! Ensure the safety of civilians!" an Imperial officer ordered.

"Give these poor people a break! Open fire! Open fire!"

Once they appeared, the Imperial army gained an overwhelming advantage in firepower and steadily advanced through the Freeport, rescuing townspeople trapped in their homes and sending them onto transport ships. It all seemed to have been rehearsed many times and was done with great ease.

Buren and his men were immediately encouraged, and the residents of Freeport spontaneously moved toward the landed transport ship, while those who couldn't make it shouted for help.

Nothing's more exhilarating than watching humanity's steel might mob brutally beat up alien monsters.

The Terran Empire sends troops to many worlds like Beca Ro that are under invasion or facing difficulties. No one knows the exact number of troops, but it is obvious that the number is constantly changing.

The empire recruits soldiers from every world they have visited, and the fighting ability and combat style of these soldiers depend to some extent on the environments in which they have lived in the past.

"All I know is that Freeport is saved," Buren said.

"This is what children should be learning now; those old ideas should be thrown in the trash," said Colston, the only teacher at Freeport.

"I am Colonel Lisa Cassidy, commander of Becca Lowe's Terran Empire army." A warrior in silver-gray Power Armor stepped off the transport ship, followed by Imperial soldiers in similar attire.

Silver-gray Power Armor, winged hooded skulls—the infamous Heaven's Devils army—only a very small number of the Terran Empire troops would use such an insignia. However, the people of the remote, impoverished region, who hadn't interacted with the outside world for thirty years, would never recognize it.

The medics of Heaven's Devils don't look like the kind of people who save lives at all.

The Terran Empire's medics are trained entirely according to the standards of the United Earth Directorate, and even their equipment is almost identical, because this equipment originally belonged to the United Earth Directorate Expeditionary Fleet, and even the personnel inside are not necessarily replaced.

Augustus treated the surrendered soldiers of the United Earth Directorate Expeditionary Fleet quite well; at least he didn't truly exterminate them.

"Everyone in Freeport must evacuate immediately. This is an order from the Marine Corps Headquarters at Korhal Palace." Colonel Lisa did not remove her helmet; her tone was stern and unquestionable, her voice like that of an angel.

"Sir, I think I must remind you, this place doesn't belong to the Terran Empire, and we are not obligated to obey the Empire's orders," the old miner emphasized suspiciously.

"This is our home. My friends and I spent thirty years building this little village, and we'd rather die than leave it!"

"Yes, you're right." The colonel looked up at the flag fluttering in the wind beside him.

"But as the Imperial Constitution stipulates, protecting the citizens of the Terran Empire from the threats of the Zerg and Protoss alien forces is the responsibility of all Imperial soldiers, and the reason I'm going to save you, you lice, flea, and bedbug, is based on a doctor's ethical code, not because you, you stupid donkey, just happen to be human." She roared.

"The answer I want is immediately, right now, right away!"

"Sir, this isn't boot camp," a medic reminded him. "You shouldn't be insulting a civilian."

"I always wait until I've apologized before I do." Lisa had little patience for stubborn, inflexible people like the old miner.

"What doubts do you still have? If Freeport had agreed to the Imperial garrison earlier, so many people wouldn't have died. But this was your demand. In any case, the Empire never forces its people to make decisions."

"What you need to do now is board the ship immediately to Becca Lowe's military base. You may be registered as war refugees, but that's alright, this situation will soon improve. In other words, even if you are refugees, you are refugees of the Terran Empire, protected by law, by the grace of Augustus."

"Hurry, or Carlos's army of Infested Terran will soon overwhelm this place."

"This old man's gone mad. He's not quite right in the head; he can't even say thank you anymore." Mayor Nicholas, however, had the audacity to pull the old miner aside and smoothly offer words of apology. One could only say that such a person would be better suited to be a politician; putting him in a place like this is a waste of his talents.

"Colonel, I must tell you, we've all been infected by the Zerg virus." Buren hesitated for a moment, as if he knew he was about to be shot if he said this, "Therefore, we cannot travel on the same ship as the others."

"Understood, Lieutenant Morales, give them the injections." Colonel Lisa glanced at Buren and nodded.

"This is the latest nanoserum, capable of eradicating the current Zerg virus. It has been certified by the Imperial Drug Administration and the Protoss Empire, and is worth a fortune. But the Emperor has paid for it for you."

"Thank you, thank you so much." Buren was truly moved to tears.

This immediately relieved Buren, indicating that the Zerg infection was treatable. He couldn't help but feel very curious about the emperor mentioned by the Imperial soldier. "What kind of person is the emperor, really?"

"My views regarding the Emperor are kept secret." Surprisingly, Colonel Lisa replied:

"If you ask me what I think of the Empress, I'd say her taste in women is exceptionally poor."

"It's absolutely blind."

"..." Buren was at a loss.

"Where does it hurt? Relax, darling, it's just a mosquito bite." The medic Morales, along with several other medics, spoke in a sweet voice, but the glowing syringe and nail gun on her arm sent chills down one's spine. "No need to take your pants off."

With the aid of her Power Armor, Morales easily grabbed Nicholas and then plunged the knife into his neck, nearly causing the young man to faint from fright. The action was anything but gentle; it looked more like murder.

Buren also received an injection in his neck, and the wound was quickly sutured with a laser. Whether it was psychological or not, he genuinely felt much better.

"Sir, how exactly is this infection transmitted? I mean, my wife was with me too," Buren pleaded. "My family is still trapped in our home. I'll do anything to save them!"

"The current Zerg viruses are evolving rapidly, and it's impossible to determine whether they have evolved new transmission methods," Lisa said.

"Don't worry, everyone will have a chance to be treated, as long as they swear an oath to become citizens of the Empire—"

As more Terran Empire transport ships landed, Buren became convinced that his father's ideas were outdated.

Perhaps becoming a citizen of the Terran Empire isn't such a bad thing.
