Umojan Ambassador
From the outside, the Mengsk Family's magnificent buildings resemble a Danish castle from the medieval era. The interior, with its retro design, presents a different picture. The understated and solemn corridors are connected by spiral staircases, leading to spacious halls with glass domes, beneath which chandeliers emit a gilded glow.
After Augustus embraced his mother, his mother's old butler, and the master of cold weapons specially hired by the Mengsk Family to teach their sons swordsmanship, Augustus pleased that his swordsmanship instructor hadn't checked on him to see if he had fallen behind in his daily sword practice. In fact, perhaps even his sister could easily defeat him in the training room now.
Afterwards, Augustus introduced several of his subordinates to his mother. These Heaven's Devils, without family and adrift like duckweed, would become Augustus's capable assistants in the future.
Lisa Cassidy must have secretly studied Tarsonis aristocratic etiquette, behaving appropriately and naturally, like an elegant and reserved noblewoman with bright, girlish eyes, rather than a butcher's child.
Ward remained composed throughout, only bending his straight back when facing Augustus's mother. Harnack behaved like a monkey struggling to keep quiet, while Zander was completely stunned by the magnificent decorations.
Katherine sincerely thanked Lisa and the others, and, according to tradition, prayed for the Holy Spirit's presence with them. Dorothy, meanwhile, clung to Augustus's hand, just as she had when she was a child.
Augustus led his dumbfounded men through a red-carpeted corridor into the banquet hall. The Korhal wolf statues and gold-framed oil paintings in the corridor told the great deeds of the original Korhal pioneers in expanding their territory, and these have now become legends that have accompanied generations of Korhal people as they grew up.
On the blue marble wall of the banquet hall, decorated with silver leaf and silver-plated vines, hangs a huge oil painting. It depicts a middle-aged man with gray hair, wearing a red hooded hunting robe from the Colonial Era, with a long-handled hunting rifle slung across his back. At his feet is a spotted greyhound native to Korhal, and a golden eagle perches on a thick pad on his shoulder.
That's a portrait of the first generation of Mengsk, when the colonists were still using old-fashioned weapons to fight the Korhal wolves and other ferocious beasts. Whether in conquering nature or building their homes, the Mengsk Family had always been the leaders of the Korhal colonists.
The banquet hall features two walls of floor-to-ceiling glass windows facing the ocean and mountains. Through these windows, towering cliffs overlook a dark ocean, its surface shimmering like flowing gold under the sunlight, with undulating waves rolling with white foam. To the north lie rolling mountains, and in this autumn season at this latitude, the maple trees of Steele are ablaze with fiery red.
Whenever he saw such a mesmerizing sight, Augustus always think of Korhal from the StarCraft II era. Unlike the deep green planet it is today, Korhal, having been bombarded by a thousand Apocalypse-class Nuclear Missile from the Terran Confederacy, was now a world composed of Radiated Wastes and radioactive wastelands.
The cruelest and most direct punishment.
As Augustus, Lisa, and the others sat down in the silver-plated chairs, a middle-aged man in a suit and tie walked into the banquet hall. His uniform had a blue and white pattern with two overlapping triangles and circles on the chest.
The man had a gentle appearance, and his beard was clean-shaven, indicating that he was the kind of person who paid great attention to his appearance. His face looked quite young, but his hair was already almost gray like that of an elderly person.
Ailin Pasteur, Umojan's diplomatic ambassador to Korhal IV, and one of the elected members of parliament.
In recent years, Ailin has frequently traveled between Umojan and Korhal, bringing a steady stream of aid to the Mengsk Family and other support from the Umojan elected council.
Augustus's first impression of this man was when he was only eight years old, and his memory of that time was already very vague. However, Augustus remembered his daughter quite clearly; she was a beautiful girl the same age as his Arcturus, very pretty, with bright, expressive eyes and a striking head of long, golden hair.
Of course, Augustus's deep impression of this girl wasn't because he had any romantic feelings for her at the time, but rather because of a rather embarrassing memory. Ailin's only daughter, the young, beautiful, and gentle Juliana Pasteur, always believed that Arcturus had two younger sisters.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, young Augustus Mengsk. You are becoming as reliable as your father." Ailin walked straight to Augustus, shook hands with him, and embraced him.
"Sooner or later you will inherit your father's business, and carry on the glory and long-standing achievements of the Mengsk Family," he said, lavishing praise upon you.
"I still need a lot of experience to catch up with my father." Augustus smiled, and as he had expected, a look of satisfaction immediately spread across his mother's face after he said this.
"Is that really what you think?" Ailin was even happier than Augustus's mother.
"The Umojan Council is always very worried about Angus's health. If he collapses from exhaustion, we really don't know who will replace him," he whispered to Augustus.
"It seems the war has changed you."
"The war is over, and with it all, my ambition and aspirations," Augustus. "I will never become a general in my life, but perhaps I will still have the chance to pin sashes and medals on generals."
"Please sit down, Uncle Ailin."
Augustus and Ailin sat down together and discussed the issue of military aid to Umojan. The cunning Ailin kept emphasizing Umojan's declining economy, but made no mention of the soaring foreign trade volume during the Guild Wars.
"I want to know how Umojan's research on CMC Power Armor is going, and whether they can mass-produce Umojan's Power Armor," Augustus asked Ailin.
"We've made some progress," Ailin said vaguely. "I can assure you that we have no shortage of weapons, ammunition, tanks, ships, medical equipment, or even personnel support."
"I hope so." Augustus smiled. "I hope the friendship between Korhal and Umojan will last for generations."
Augustus was not in a hurry to get more information or assistance from Umojan, so he turned to Ailin and talked about things that were not too inflammatory.
"I still remember Juliana, I remember her telling me she wanted to be a lawyer," Augustus a smile. "How is she doing now?"
"Good, very good—" Unexpectedly, Ailin Pasteur's expression immediately changed, his face turning ashen. "Juliana failed to become a lawyer; she gave up the career she had dedicated half her life to."
Augustus realized that Erin's attitude had changed drastically, but he couldn't figure out why.
"Speaking of this, your Arcturus Mengsk." Ailin practically spat out each word through gritted teeth, as if he were chewing a bone.
Is he still alive?
"Arcturus is still alive. He retired as a colonel and is now exploring the galaxy." Augustus carefully chose his words, trying to avoid provoking further anger from Ailin Baston.
"Really?" Ailin sighed with a complicated expression. "That's wonderful."
Augustus pondered for a long time, trying to find the reason for Ailin's change of attitude. Suddenly, a blond young man popped into his mind: Valerian Mengsk, the Heir the Terran Empire in the Game, the child of Arcturus Mengsk and a Umojan woman.
He had almost forgotten the message. Valerian, son of Arcturus and Juliana.
The key issue is that the Mengsk Family, from Angus and Katherine to Augustus and Dorothy, had never heard of this, and even Arcturus himself had never mentioned it.
What happened?
Could it be that his brother is actually a scumbag who ran away after getting Juliana pregnant, or that he didn't use contraception when he slept with another girl and then forgot about it after returning to the army?
By all accounts, Valerian, who was twenty years old after the Brood War, should have been born by now, but the Mengsk Family was completely unaware of this. If he hadn't met Ailin, Augustus n't have remembered this at all.
Augustus decided to get to the bottom of it.
