Swarm had been written on and off for a whole year, and now it was finally complete.
This was Quantum's first long novel. At first, I wrote one about surviving the apocalypse, but it didn't get signed. Later, Qidian launched a sci-fi writing contest, so I dropped that one and started writing Swarm instead.
But as a newcomer, starting on impulse and taking on something like Swarm was honestly a bit beyond my abilities. It was incredibly difficult to make this subject feel realistic—especially when I also wanted it to have some connection to science fiction.
Originally, I should have had at least two books under my belt before writing Swarm. But I rushed into it, and my writing ability wasn't up to par. I had some ideas in my head, but when it came time to put them into words, I often didn't know how to express them. The vastness of space, the collision between countless Swarm units and mechanical warships—it all came out dull and lifeless.
On top of that, my knowledge base wasn't enough, and my pig brain was overloaded. Although I worked hard to read up on a lot of material, I still couldn't imagine what battles between more advanced civilizations would look like. If I kept writing, it would probably just be different kinds of cannons blasting away at each other, and nobody would want to read that. So, with the year coming to an end, I decided to wrap it up.
