His government embraced the opportunities of the new technological revolution as neighboring monarchies fell or were overthrown. 191

Raging Wave City became the Empire’s largest foreign-trade port through extensive imperial policy, talent, and economic support. The city was administered by its City Council rather than directly appointed imperial officials, but its tax payments were considered far below what its wealth should have produced. 163

The Empire’s growing prosperity also sharpened internal political divisions. New nobles in Raging Wave City promoted parliamentary ideas, while hereditary nobles feared the continued erosion of their traditional privileges and influence. 87 181

The crisis escalated when Emperor Augustine stripped Duke Kelt of his title and reclaimed Tedga Hills; Kelt rejected the decree and called on the Blade Bearer Brotherhood to overthrow the Golden Shield Imperial Family. The resulting civil war opened amid continuing pressure on the Empire’s borders. 262

Following the Empire’s political upheaval, Queen Christina was crowned Empress. Her coronation emphasized the Empire’s survival through rebellion, invasion, and court instability, while publicly commemorating Augustine’s passing. 553

Economy and Industry

• Raging Wave City economic zone — Raging Wave City became the Empire’s principal economic engine, drawing wealth from international trade and supporting the Empire’s finances during simultaneous wars. 477
