"..." Inspector Megure only wanted to know where the bombs and the bomber were. He had no interest whatsoever in an old man from a fairy tale. He sighed. "So we can't use the Picture Book's ending to figure out where the next bomb is."
Officer Takagi could only go back to pondering the brain teaser. "The very middle of 7... the fourth day of the week? The seven colors of the rainbow? The seven notes of a Musical Scale?"
Thinking about it, he realized just how versatile the number seven was. Things associated with it were everywhere.
Inspector Megure sighed. They could only resort to their old clumsy method. "Call in everyone we can spare and search any places that might be connected to seven."
"Yes!" The junior officers hurried off in different directions.
Editor Tomonaga looked around, hesitating. "Is there anything I can do?"
Inspector Megure said, "If you can remember the answer to that brain teaser..."
"I really don't remember it." Editor Tomonaga sighed and could only say, "Then I'll head back first."
Inspector Megure nodded and did not stop him. An editor was not a Detective, and there was no point in keeping him here—on the contrary, perhaps Editor Tomonaga would return to his office or study, have a flash of inspiration, and remember the answer to the brain teaser.
He handed over a Business Card and instructed him, "If you remember anything, contact me immediately. It's fine even if you're wrong."
After watching the editor walk away, Inspector Megure quietly took out his phone.
Looking completely stumped in front of his subordinates, then going to ask a Detective who was not even at the scene for the answer, sounded far too embarrassing.
But asking in private... should be fine.
While the police busily searched.
