Tenten initially regards Neji as the weak link of their team. During a cat-catching mission, she criticizes him for arriving late and worries that his apparent lack of ability will hold the squad back in the Chunin Exams. Her concern is blunt but rooted in the team's prospects. 3

Neji's performance against Might Guy overturns her assumptions. She witnesses him employ the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms and force Guy to open the Gate of Healing to defend himself, leaving her astonished at how far he has progressed. 4
