"Don't waste your time being angry. You should be worrying about yourselves instead," Naruto said quietly.
The three looked at Naruto in confusion. Konohamaru asked, "Did something happen, Big Brother Naruto?"
Naruto pressed a hand to his forehead, speechless. "You haven't forgotten, have you? I already told you that since you let those bandits go, they might gather more people and come back for revenge."
Only then did the three remember the three mistakes Naruto had pointed out earlier. Now that they had calmed down and thought about it, he was right. Huang Meng asked worriedly, "Then what do we do, Big Brother Naruto?"
Konohamaru laughed. "Hehe, it's fine. Big Brother Naruto is here. No matter how many bandits come, they won't be a match for him. Don't worry, Huang Meng."
Naruto smiled. "Hehe, you've certainly worked that out nicely, Konohamaru. Dealing with those bandits for you would be easy, but that would defeat the whole purpose of training you. So I'm not going to help. You'll have to deal with them yourselves."
Konohamaru's face fell at once. "What? Why? Big Brother Naruto, you wouldn't want to watch your adorable little brother die young, would you? I don't want to die! I haven't become Hokage yet! Please, Big Brother Naruto, you can't do this!"
Seeing Konohamaru's exaggerated expression, Naruto smiled. "Hehe, don't worry. I won't watch you die. I'll step in when it matters, but only if your lives are in danger. In other words, even if you get beaten half to death or permanently crippled, I won't help. So you'd better figure out how to handle this yourselves."
At first, hearing that Naruto would step in gave Konohamaru a little hope. By the time Naruto finished, though, he wished he were dead. He wailed, "Big Brother Naruto!"
Naruto smiled.
