In the silent dungeon, thick iron chains bound all four of Xue Wuyi's limbs, and his demonic battle aura had been sealed. He lay on the icy floor like a cripple, his eyes blood-red and filled with savage fury and murderous intent.
Xue Wuyi no longer possessed his former bearing. All that remained was deep hatred. Though he knew he had virtually no chance of surviving, he still refused to give up. One last sliver of hope remained in his heart: his mother. He knew she would come to rescue him.
The sun had set, and night had fallen. Yet sounds broke the silence that should have filled the dungeon. Two screams rang out, and the guards at the entrance fell to the ground. Hearing the cell door open, Xue Wuyi immediately turned toward it and saw Xue Bingning hurrying toward him.
The moment Xue Wuyi saw Xue Bingning, he called out, "Mother, you're here!"
Seeing Xue Wuyi covered in wounds, his clothes stained red with blood, Xue Bingning was horrified. Heartbroken, she said, "Wuyi, are you all right? How could they be so cruel as to hurt you like this?"
Xue Wuyi gave a bitter smile. "I'm fine, Mother. Don't be sad. They're only superficial wounds. They'll heal soon, so don't worry."
Xue Bingning examined him. As Xue Wuyi had said, his wounds were indeed superficial, aside from a broken hand. Even that was nothing serious and could easily be healed. "I'll get you out right now," she said. She pressed her hand against the chains binding him, and a surge of cold flowed from her palm, freezing them. Then, with a slight exertion of force, she snapped them.
After helping Xue Wuyi to his feet, Xue Bingning asked, "Wuyi, can you still walk?"
Xue Wuyi shook his head.
