Background / History
Liu Dezhu enters Prison No. 18 as a new Time Walker and immediately tries to obtain a “job transfer quest” from Li Shutong. Instead, he is placed in solitary confinement. Back in the Outer World, he turns his brief encounter with Li Shutong into claims of exceptional status, attracting the fascination of his classmates and the wider Time Walker community. 29 66
After Jian Sheng publicly seeks help from a mysterious influential Time Walker in Prison No. 18, public opinion identifies Liu as that figure. The attention brings reporters, people seeking favors, and kidnappers with mechanical limbs. Kunlun rescues him and places him under protection, though Zheng Yuandong doubts that someone so timid and unalert could truly be valued by Li Shutong. 49 50 51
Qing Chen, operating behind a Cat Face Mask, turns Liu’s false reputation into a useful cover. He offers to clear Liu’s name in exchange for Liu impersonating him and connecting interested Outer World figures to him. Liu accepts for the access, protection, gold, and genuine gene serums that Qing Chen can provide. 66 67 97
Liu initially exploits the arrangement for personal gain, concealing a watch and part of a payment from Hu Xiaoniu. His failure to promptly check his communicator during the Laojun Mountain incident contributes to the deaths of two Kunlun members. Qing Chen confines and waterboards him, making clear that Liu may keep only what he is given, not what he steals. 70 97 100 105
Afterward, Liu becomes markedly more obedient and proactive. He performs his fabricated high status before newly arrived Time Walkers in Prison No. 18, with Li Shutong, Ye Wan, and Lin Xiaoxiao cooperating in the deception. His readiness to humble himself and play a role leads Lin Xiaoxiao to judge him suited for agent work. 105 106
The Wang Family’s retaliation exposes Liu and his parents to direct danger. When his mother is injured during the attack on Xinglong Residential Area, Liu ignores the risk and carries her toward the hospital. Qing Chen and his allies protect the family, an intervention that becomes the foundation of Liu’s later gratitude and loyalty. 172 173 251
After Qing Chen clears his case and secures his release from Prison No. 10, Liu passes a loyalty test by delivering an unopened black box addressed to his boss. He formally commits himself to Qing Chen’s plans and becomes a member of Daybreak. 251
Personality
Liu is initially driven by vanity, greed, and fear. He enjoys the prestige attached to his supposed relationship with Li Shutong, takes small advantages when he believes he can get away with them, and is easily frightened by genuine danger. 29 51 97 101
He is also adaptable. When confronted with danger or authority, Liu can immediately change tactics—whether feigning mental disability to evade a thug, performing composed authority before other Time Walkers, or submitting without resistance when he knows he has lost. 74 105 106
His loyalty develops from self-interest into gratitude. Qing Chen’s rescue of his family and his release from prison convince Liu that his boss is worth following. He later refuses protection money despite temptation, trains to become more useful, and takes dangerous assignments even while afraid. 251 256 291 304
Liu is deeply attached to his parents. Their attempts to support his Demon Stamp correspondence by donating blood affect him strongly, and his fear for his mother overrides his instinct for self-preservation during the Xinglong Residential Area attack. 172 173
Abilities & Skills
Heat and Energy Manipulation
Liu’s awakened ability converts energy within his body into heat, allowing him to create and control intense flames. He can also absorb heat, including heat released by explosions.
- Launches a wave of fire that badly wounds a C-Class assassin before he reaches Qing Chen. 268
- Absorbs the heat of a bomb detonation into his body, preventing the blast from harming his companions. 333 334
- Can draw surrounding flames back into himself after releasing them. 333
- Uses fire to amplify his close-range attacks and overwhelm multiple assassins. 437
- Excessive energy release exhausts him, while absorbing too much heat leaves him nauseated and on the verge of vomiting. 334
Gene-Serum Enhancement and Cultivation
Liu possesses both gene-serum enhancement and an awakened ability, then continues cultivation afterward.
- His gene-serum modification grants substantial physical strength and rapid recovery. 69
- He is able to cultivate three meridians simultaneously despite having awakened and received gene serum. 310
- Awakening slows his cultivation compared with others, but he persists because Qing Chen promises to raise his awakened level if Liu reaches B-Class through cultivation. 437
- Seeks combat training from Qing Chen rather than relying solely on his C-Class power. 291
Close-Quarters Combat
Liu develops a flamboyant fighting style based on Kusanagi’s techniques from The King of Fighters, at Nan Gengchen’s suggestion.
- Uses a fire-coated punch to break an assassin’s neck and ignite him. 437
- Combines kicks, uppercuts, movement, and flame bursts in techniques he calls Orochinagi and Oniyaki. 437
- His stance and force transmission improve through Daybreak training, enabling him to strike faster than an attacking assassin. 437
Deception and Fieldcraft
Liu’s ability to act convincingly makes him useful as Daybreak’s public-facing decoy.
- Feigns intellectual disability to avoid a mechanical-limbed thug and escape a dangerous encounter. 74
- Maintains the image of a high-ranking Prison No. 18 figure before new Time Walkers, despite privately panicking over the deception. 105
- Helps Hu Xiaoniu pressure Zhang Chengze into accepting Daybreak’s terms by playing the “bad cop.” 277 278
- Identifies and warns hostile observers before returning to Luocheng, delivering Daybreak’s message without exposing its members. 292
