Monster Hunter
A new Profession has been detected. The new Profession can be formed after the relevant conditions are met.
Profession: Monster Hunter
Description: A Profession specializing in hunting Magic Creature, possessing specialized skills for dealing with Magic Creature.
Requirements: Complete a hunt of a First Order Magic Creature, any method is acceptable, only that you contribute at least half of the kills during the hunt.
Registered with the Adventurers Guild and possessing three or more hunting records.
Fran raised an eyebrow, not expecting to glean information about a Profession from examining the Magic Creature's information.
Sure enough, there are more opportunities outside. She searched through all the books in the City of Apprentices but couldn't find any information about other Profession.
However, this Profession seems to be different from her previous Profession.
Her previous Profession all required her to possess a certain skill or to reach a certain level of proficiency in that skill.
However, this Monster Hunter requires you to complete a certain task, without requiring any related Arts.
Theoretically speaking, it seems possible to achieve this Profession even if someone knows no Combat Technique or magic.
The conditions even include registering with the Adventurers Guild, which is completely baffling and has nothing to do with Monster Hunter.
This made Fran wonder if this Profession could even be considered a one-star Profession.
It's good that these conditions exist; they aren't too difficult for Fran to meet, they just need to take some time.
"Your Excellency, this is Earth Dragon that our Association sighted two years ago. Because of its immense power, no hunting team has succeeded. If you need its materials, we can increase the reward, and we will arrange for multiple teams to conduct a joint hunt..."
The new receptionist assumed Fran was interested in the Earth Dragon's materials, so she introduced her to the Association's commissioned services.
If Fran is willing to invest more funds, then she can also get a share of the profits.
But Fran's next words left her somewhat dumbfounded.
"No, I need to register for an Adventurer account. Can you arrange that for me? I need information about this Earth Dragon and these Magic Creature..."
After listening carefully to Fran's request, the receptionist's expression was quite interesting, but she still maintained her Profession and helped Landon process.
Logically speaking, to register as an Adventurer, one needs the joint recommendation of veteran Adventurer; one cannot enter this high-end and 'lucrative' industry on their own.
However, the Formal Rank are different; they are still higher than the level of a group of apprentices.
Furthermore, 95% of the Adventurers Guild's work actually involves dealing with Magic Creature of First Order and below.
Higher-level missions are actually quite rare. By the time you reach the second or third tier, even teams with second or third-tier Profession won't easily attempt to defeat these high-level Magic Creature.
Because it's too easy to lose members in battle, and those Magic Creature all have wide-range attack capabilities, low-level Profession can hardly survive.
Those high-level teams usually target rare First Order Magic Creature, specifically using those rare materials to exchange for rewards.
This is relatively safe, and the rewards are not low, so why bother challenging those powerful Magic Creature?
Many mages actually registered as Adventurer, but almost all of them quickly gave up on the Profession.
The loot obtained from hunting Magic Creature might be useful to lords and warriors, but it has very little effect on mages.
A mage's combat power is most affected by their spells, while hunting Magic Creature has almost no positive effect on spells, and even if it does, it's only indirect.
"Your Excellency, if you require information about these Magic Creature, you will need to pay for the information."
This is also a specific fee-based service offered by the Adventurers Guild; if you want information about a particular Magic Creature, you need to pay.
Once you pay the fee, the Association will temporarily suspend the Magic Creature's tag to prevent other teams from having a conflict with you regarding targets.
Furthermore, the Association will also provide sighting reports of the target, its approximate current location, and records of previous encounters with similar Magic Creature; these are all services associated with this information fee.
Fran didn't even look up before placing the Gold Coin on the table.
The receptionist didn't take it immediately, but checked it again.
"My lord mage, are you sure you want to take on this Earth Dragon quest? If you don't have a team, it might be very difficult to succeed..."
The receptionist looked troubled. Logically speaking, there shouldn't be any problem for a First Order Profession to take on the task of hunting down a First Order Magic Creature, based on the data on paper.
This isn't a matter of combat power, but rather a matter of experience. Defeating a Magic Creature requires a lot of preparation.
For example, luring the target into a trap, cutting off the target's escape route... Many times, you can't defeat the target just by defeating the opponent, since the target can escape at any time, and will just run away once they realize they can't beat them.
Even in this Earth Dragon extermination mission, the target failed to be defeated twice because it broke through the blocking barriers.
"I'm sure that's it."
Seeing Fran's state, the receptionist didn't say anything more. She helped Fran complete the formalities, returned the change to Fran, and then continued:
"My lord mage, please note that the Association will remove Magic Creature for which information fees have been paid from the listings for one month. If you wish to extend this period, please bring this certificate to the Association within the last seven days..."
The receptionist then explained some important points to Fran, including how to confirm that the target had been killed after a successful hunt, how to transport the materials, and so on...
"My lord mage, I've found the information you requested about the Enchanter's shop. It's right here."
The receptionist, panting and flushed, ran up to Fran and handed Fran a few pieces of paper that were slightly wrinkled from the exertion.
Fran glanced at it briefly and said:
"Then I'll be going now."
"Take care!" the receptionist greeted her warmly, after all, she had earned a full eighty silver coins today, and had shared twenty silver coins with her colleagues.
Half an hour after Fran left, a small, travel-worn party arrived at the Adventurers Guild.
As soon as he entered, the team leader, Oliver, shouted at the top of his lungs:
"Hey, miss, I'm going to challenge the Earth Dragon again this time. Quickly get me the information."
The receptionist was very familiar with this team. They had two First Order Profession and more than six First Order Magic Creature kill records, making them a powerful team.
They had previously taken on a mission to hunt down an Earth Dragon, but that time they chased Earth Dragon in the mountains for over a month without success, resulting in failure.
They must be well-prepared this time.
"Uh... I'm sorry, Oliver, that mission was taken by someone else recently, so I can't give you any relevant information."
Upon hearing this reply, Oliver frowned and began to curse:
"(Swearing), didn't I tell those teams I was determined to get this Earth Dragon? How come there are still people trying to take it from us?"
He knew all the teams in the area that could hunt First Order Magic Creature, and he had greeted them all, but in the end, he was still robbed of his prize, which made him extremely angry.
Immediately afterward, ignoring the receptionist's explanation, he pushed open the door and went out, loudly proclaiming:
"No information is fine too. It just means the search will take a bit longer. I want to see if the person who's going against me can outrun me."
