The Beginning of the Turmoil
Jared is the head of the Northern Lands Society's Fallen Leaf Selection. He has been in this field for eleven years, starting out as an unknown, but after years of hard work, he has successfully created his own selection.
Furthermore, his Fallen Leaf Selection is quite good; aside from Snowflake Selection, which is the largest selection section, Fallen Leaf Selection is one of the largest selection sections.
That day, he received a message from his good friend, Alaric, who worked as an auditor at the Northern Lands Society.
This kind of information usually comes from Alaric discovering some important findings, which he then sends to the various featured sections.
Generally speaking, Alaric doesn't favor his friends, which is also how Alaric makes money. He gets paid for recommending items and having them featured in his "Featured" section.
Clearly, Jared's friendship with Alaric wasn't enough for Alaric to ignore this large sum of money, but Alaric wasn't entirely ungrateful either.
Alaric would submit information to him whenever he saw an interesting Paper, though most of the time it was just to make his friend laugh.
Many of the Paper sent to him individually were incredibly redundant, adding three extra steps to the process while keeping the raw materials the same; others even attempted to make a spell simultaneously cool and heat up...
But no matter what Alaric sends him, he ultimately has to filter it all himself, including all the featured sections.
The Paper that Alaric sent over, which he considered very innovative, was viewed differently by these professional reviewers.
Many Paper that Alaric considered excellent were, in his opinion, worthless, but were considered acceptable by the head of another featured section.
After all, everyone has different evaluation criteria. It's perfectly normal for Paper to be published on one platform but not on another.
As usual, Jared unfolded the papers Alaric handed him.
The first title he saw was "Optimization of the White Star Sand Extraction Device".
Just by looking at the title, he could imagine how significant this achievement was.
He hurriedly went outside and entered the Mage Tower.
Jared walked to a small room on the third floor and said to someone inside:
"Please print out a copy of Paper above; I want to take a look at them beforehand."
Those who run this curated section have one right—the ability to view Paper that haven't yet passed review.
For a Paper to be officially published on the Northern Lands Society's Mana Communication System, it must first undergo multiple reviews, with content review being secondary.
The most important thing is to check if there are any hidden patterns or magical designs on the manuscript.
Otherwise, once someone accesses the Mana Communication System and activates this hidden pattern, things could get complicated.
Therefore, even if a Paper has passed the content review, it still needs to go through a process and be checked for security before it can be uploaded to the Mana Communication System.
This process usually takes about half a month and is quite time-consuming. Almost all Paper have to go through this procedure without exception.
The person in charge of the featured section can use this time to preview the Paper and write their evaluations.
This way, when the Paper is uploaded to the Mana Communication System, the evaluation and the Paper can be released almost simultaneously.
Jared didn't need to be in such a hurry; after all, he still had half a month, enough time to write a review.
But just seeing the title made him eager to try it, so he came straight here and printed out Paper that were under review.
Since we're already here, let's print out all the Paper here so we don't have to make another trip later.
Jared carried the printed Paper back to his home and slowly read them on the sofa.
He first picked up the paper "Optimization of White Star Sand Extraction Device," and after studying it for a long time on the sofa, he uttered the same sigh as Alaric.
"The academic society has produced another major achievement!"
"This time, the Society will be a strong contender for the awards within the Alchemy School."
Jared was lavish in his praise of the Paper, and he also thought the results on Paper were excellent.
He placed the Paper on the table and breathed a satisfied sigh of relief.
"Next month's featured section has its main content."
Generally speaking, the main content of the featured section has always been a major headache for him.
The quality of the Paper published each month is so varied that it's an understatement to say it's inconsistent; more often than not, you don't even know which ones actually qualify as Paper.
Sometimes, if a month's worth of content is entirely rubbish, these featured sections have no choice but to announce a month-long break and publish nothing.
"However, with this Paper next month, even if the rest are all garbage, it should still be able to be published."
After he finished sighing, he realized that he had printed two Paper and still hadn't read the Paper yet.
He composed himself before picking up another paper, and only then did he see the Paper: "Mathematical Analysis of Fireball".
This made him immediately suspect that Alaric had given him this for his amusement; what era is this, still using Fireball?
But he could only keep reading for now, to see if this Paper had the potential to become one of the featured projects for next month.
There's no way around it; sometimes, these entertaining Paper are much better than those that just repeat things that everyone already knows.
When he saw the first line, he unconsciously straightened his posture and his face tensed up.
At this moment, only the sound of him turning pages filled the spacious room; he even held his breath.
When he saw the last line, he suddenly felt cold sweat dripping from his forehead, and his lungs heaving violently due to lack of air.
He wasn't like Alaric, a mage who only knew a little about content moderation. As a researcher, he was quite skilled. He just got tired of the boring environment in the laboratory, which is why he came to create the featured section.
At this moment, he truly saw the value of this Paper, which lay in its introduction of a mathematical tool. The Fireball was merely an example used by the author; its true power lay in the mathematical theory it proposed.
Just reading the entire Paper has given Jared enough ideas for optimizing various spells. It's safe to say that publishing this Paper will lead to many new discoveries.
He was incredibly excited. Such Paper are rare, usually appearing only once every three years, but he had found two of them.
"Use this Fireball on the cover, the extraction of White Star Sand is still somewhat inferior compared to this."
After a moment's thought, he decided on the layout for next month's Fallen Leaf Selection.
