Choosing an Ability
Only after killing the young dragon did Fran's true appearance of the dragon emerge in Fran mind.
Its entire body is golden, and it flies up in the waves. Its scales are tightly packed, and from a distance, its skin looks as smooth as a ribbon.
To Fran's slight surprise, this Deep Sea Golden Dragon was not the traditional Western dragon Fran had seen before; its appearance was more like that of an Eastern dragon.
It is shaped like a long snake, with only a pair of tiny wings on its back, but these wings do not move at all during flight.
Fran thought for a moment and calmed down a bit. Although the appearance of a dragon with this kind of appearance was somewhat unexpected, she shouldn't have been surprised.
It's worth noting that in her previous life's D&D, there were quite a few such Eastern dragons, so it's normal for them to exist in another world.
Putting aside the dragon's appearance, Fran's primary goal is to choose an ability from the available options that she needs.
She carefully reviewed the abilities and decided to eliminate some of the more basic ones first.
What are some of the more basic abilities? They might be things like Dragon Scale and claws, which every dragon possesses.
And although the basic skills of the Deep Sea Golden Dragon should be stronger than those of ordinary Dragonkin, how much stronger can these basic skills be?
Judging from the appearance of the Deep Sea Golden Dragon, it is not Dragonkin that relies solely on sharp claws and hard scales to fight.
She guessed that this Dragonkin must be something like a mage among the Dragon Clan, with very strong magical abilities.
Furthermore, although the Deep Sea Golden Dragon demonstrated some elemental abilities during its struggle, such as water and electricity...
However, Fran doesn't really need this elemental affinity right now. Her elemental magic is already very strong, and her current elemental affinity is enough to handle second-tier battles.
Hunting a Deep Sea Golden Dragon is a rare opportunity. If she misses this one, she estimates that the next time she can gain power from Deep Sea Golden Dragon will be when she reaches the third rank.
"I don't want that either. Who wants a dragon's sleeping ability? It allows it to quickly consume the energy it has swallowed while sleeping, enabling it to grow rapidly..."
"The ability to devour Ore and energy... Forget it, I'm too small for that. How much could I possibly swallow..."
She can only choose to devour, and her digestive ability is minimal. True Dragonkin, when digesting these Ore and energies, simply take a nap...
In the end, Fran found only three abilities truly interesting:
[Draconic Instinct: When you use this ability, all creatures within range will clearly recognize that you are a dragon, even if you currently look very much like a human... For the Dragon Clan, their innate Draconic Instinct cannot lie or fake.]
[Ocean Overlord: When you stand on the Ocean, all your attributes will be greatly enhanced by the sea, and water and lightning-related spells will be significantly strengthened.]
[Aether Manipulation: Mages often say that Magic Power and Mental Power assist us in casting spells. A few of them, and the Dragon Clan, know that magic originates from Aether, a substance that exists uniformly in any environment. And now you can directly move or manipulate the surrounding Aether into Mental Power, Magic Power, and spells...]
Fran looked at the abilities she had carefully selected again, raised an eyebrow, and began to analyze the three abilities.
The first Draconic Instinct likely refers to the ability to intimidate other creatures and the ability to distinguish between Dragonkin.
It sounds very powerful. If Fran encounters any weaklings, she could just unleash this ability, and the opponent would probably be scared away.
Furthermore, if Fran encounters a Dragon Clan, she can use this ability to get close to it or blend into the dragon pack.
But Fran has absolutely no such needs. She's currently Northern Lands Society; why would she go to the Dragon Clan' place for no reason?
So she only hesitated for a moment before directly making this ability the last one in her list.
The second Ocean Overlord is simply very powerful, yet incredibly easy to understand – it's all about numbers.
Fran noticed the description above [significantly increased]. This Talent of hers came from the Spirit Realm, judging from the numerical descriptions of Spirit Realm Talent she had looked through.
The Spirit Realm is generally not described using precise numbers; instead, it uses terms like "slightly," "a little bit," or has no prefix.
Of course, some mages can calculate specific values through measurement and calculation. For example, Fran's teacher in the Spirit Realm Analysis class during her apprenticeship, Ichi, specifically measured the value of her spell enhancement.
Fran's "significant improvement" is quite substantial; according to the book Fran saw, it ranges from 33% to 100%.
This ability is purely a numerical boost, and it's very simple and easy to understand.
However, Fran doesn't seem to need this ability. It's quite clear that she needs to be on the ocean, and she's currently quite far from the Ocean in the Northern Lands Society.
Even if this ability is needed, there's no need to choose it now. If Fran wants to go to sea in the future, she can just hunt a Dragonkin with this ability.
There's absolutely no need for her to choose this ability, which she doesn't need right now. She'd be better off choosing an elemental ability to enhance her spells.
Then she saw the last ability, and to be honest, she wanted to choose it the moment she saw it.
It wasn't because she had read in some book that something called ' Aether ' was amazing or anything like that.
Rather, it was her thirst for knowledge as a mage, a desire that had grown stronger day by day ever since she arrived at the Northern Lands Society.
Just looking at the description, she couldn't help but feel a surge of longing. She wanted to know what exactly this ' Aether ', which only a few mages and Dragon Clan knew about, was.
Furthermore, the descriptions of all the spells, Mental Power, and Magic Power mentioned above all came from the Aether, which made it almost impossible for her to take her eyes off them.
Her right hand trembled twice, and finally, she used her Mental Power to touch the character that read "[Aether Manipulation]" in her mind.
The names of those abilities disappeared from her mind, and [Aether Manipulation] became another trait on her Panel.
The first thing she wanted to do after acquiring this ability was to try it out, but then she remembered Anna, who had been gone for some time.
She shook her head and decided to first call the Northern Lands Society and have Northern Lands Society come here to accept this item.
She took out a metal plate from the package and wrote down information about the item, her current situation, and finally requested support from the Northern Lands Society.
Just as she was about to activate the device, a message from the Northern Lands Society suddenly appeared in front of her.
"Battle Mage Corps Recruitment Quest: Found a deep blue box..." Fran's eyes lit up after reading the message carefully; it seemed she could collect a bigger reward.
