Opportunity
When Fran arrived at the spot where Anna had placed the Black Horse, she witnessed this scene.
At the entrance to the village, there were many black wolf and deer carcasses piled up, and a strong smell of blood could be smelled just by getting close.
"What did we do?" Fran was very puzzled. Wasn't the smell of blood supposed to attract other Magic Creature?
Why is this village so unafraid of Magic Creature attacks, simply leaving their Magic Creature outside? Is this a unique feature of this village?
Fran shook her head, deciding to go inside first and deal with the rest later.
But as she walked a little deeper into the village, she smelled the aroma of meat, which made her think of something.
"Are the people in this village that strong? They even possess the power to fight Magic Creature, and they've left those Magic Creature hanging outside just to attract more Magic Creature here..."
Just then, a man named Brian passed by Fran carrying a bowl of rare meat soup. He had never expected things to turn out this way.
According to his stereotype, dealing with Magic Creature was the job of knights whose arms were thicker than his thighs.
Although he knew that the knights who frequently came to their village to clear out Magic Creature could not be considered true knights, at most they could only be considered knights in Reserve Force.
However, the sheer strength of those prospective knights, their ability to lift a tree that would take two people to encircle with their bare hands, still left him somewhat astonished.
There was no knowledge of Profession in their village, and his understanding of those Profession was only better than that of the Earthlings in Fran's previous life who knew nothing.
All he knew was that those Knight Master were very powerful, and that the Magic Creature on our side needed to be dealt with by those Knight Master; that was all.
Brian had previously thought that the woman Anna possessed no power and was just like them, someone who could only tremble in fear under the threat of Magic Creature.
But when he saw Anna draw her short bow, and the roar that erupted from it made him almost lose his footing, he knew that Anna was not actually normal.
He could hardly believe that arrows that used to cause only point-penetrating damage were now like high-speed iron balls in Anna's hands.
He watched as Anna's arrow missed its mark, hitting the side of the tree and creating a large hole in it.
There was even a time when Anna shot a wolf, sending it rolling three meters backward after the shot hit...
These exaggerated performances led Brian to believe that she was far superior to those knights.
Now that the Magic Creature problem around the village was no longer a concern, Brian still had a lingering worry.
That's the village's tax problem. In the past, it was collected by a minor official who was at most slightly better than them. Now, their village has a "superman" in charge. How dare they not pay?
What if Anna, like the previous officials, creates pretexts to levy excessive taxes on them? Would they dare not pay?
Everything seemed destined when Anna displayed that astonishing power, which is Brian's biggest worry now.
He didn't know when Anna would start requisitioning firewood or food from them, or when she would make them build those strange structures again.
But now, it seems that he can't do anything but worry.
As Brian walked briskly toward his house, lost in thought, Fran called out to him.
"Hey, stop right there... Do you know where a blonde woman wearing leather armor is?"
Brian stopped and turned to look at Fran. Although the cold wind was making his neck feel a little uncomfortable, his mind started to work the moment he saw Fran.
First of all, Fran's voice and clothes were things Brian had never seen before, and she immediately went to find Anna.
Fran's identity is easy to guess; she is the newest lord of this village. Anna had previously said that the lord would arrive soon.
"Go to the end of this road, then turn right; that's where she is."
"Okay, thank you."
Fran didn't hesitate and started walking, while Brian watched Fran's departing figure, then steeled his heart and followed her.
When Fran arrived at the 'church' that she had asked Anna to deal with first, she saw a strange house.
The house renovation hadn't been going on for long, and it wasn't even finished yet. She could see many makeshift shelters around the house, as well as tools and wood scattered around it.
At the main entrance of the house, it is obvious that the door has been enlarged considerably, and there are unsightly marks on the ground from the original door frame.
Inside the house, the space was slightly more spacious, and she could see a specially made stone platform, which was used to place the statues of Divine Statue.
But apart from that spot, the rest of the house was completely unfinished. She could see a lot of dirt on the floor and some broken or chipped pieces on the wall.
Moreover, there were many miscellaneous items stored in front of that stone platform, which looked like they hadn't been dealt with yet.
However, Fran was quite satisfied, since one of the reasons she sent Anna was to allow her to make some preparations in advance, saving her some time later.
"Anna!"
Fran called Anna's name from the front door of the house, and then heard footsteps coming from behind the house.
The moment Anna saw Fran, her face lit up with surprise and delight, Fran she rushed over immediately.
"Fran, you're finally here. I can't stand this awful place anymore."
Anna hadn't realized how cold the Northern Territory was when she and her team were hiding and running around.
As First Order Profession, her physique allowed her to withstand the cold for a long time, only experiencing slight discomfort.
She was full of passion at the time, so she didn't care about the cold at all.
After arriving at the Northern Lands Society, the warm temperature, which was almost unlike anything in the Northern Territory, made her forget the cold of the Northern Territory.
But at Fran's request, she went there and experienced for the first time just how unbearable the cold of the Northern Territory was.
In this village, all she could do was eat, sleep, and watch the people renovate their houses according to her orders; there was nothing else she could do.
It was in this utterly boring environment that she first truly felt how unbearable the cold could be.
So when she saw Fran arrive, she was extremely excited.
"Now that you're here, can I leave now? I want to go back to the Northern Lands Society."
Fran gave Anna a strange look, then said:
"Not yet! We're still far from where we started! My experiment hasn't even begun."
Upon hearing this, Anna lowered her head and sighed.
"Alright, well, I promised you I'd help you with this experiment... So, can I ask when we can leave?"
"If you're lucky, you can leave in a week; if you're unlucky, you might have to stay for three months."
"Three months..." Anna's voice trembled slightly as she read this, but she quickly regained her composure.
"Okay, so what should we do now? You don't just want me to stay here and fix this house, do you?"
"Of course not, it's just that I want to start now, but I haven't found a good starting point, and I'm struggling with it..."
Just as Fran was about to tell Anna her thoughts, a commotion broke out from the other side of the village.
Fran and Anna exchanged a glance, then took a step forward together.
When Fran arrived at the scene of the riot, she saw a place crowded with people, gathered together, as if something had happened in the enclosed area.
As Fran approached, she smelled a strong stench of blood. The entire village was filled with the smell of blood because of Anna, though it was faint.
But the blood Fran smelled now was as if it had just flowed from a body.
Fran and Anna approached, and there they saw this scene.
A girl dressed in plain clothes sat on the ground, her face pale and bloodless, panting heavily. This girl was Aila, an ordinary resident of a village.
What's most striking is the girl's arm; there's a huge bite mark on her left elbow, and her left hand is now starting to turn black.
"This hand is no longer usable," said a man who appeared to be the 'doctor' here.
He came to this conclusion after carefully examining Aila's wounds, a conclusion that made Aila's already pale face appear even more uneasy.
"These Magic Creature have a liquid in their teeth that damages limbs. Your hand is beyond saving; it will have to be amputated entirely."
His face was grave. Although he knew the damage inflicted by the Magic Creature could be healed by amputating a limb, he was the only doctor present.
Sometimes, the number of doctors also reflects the level of medical technology development in a place.
He knew amputation was a normal thing; his master had performed amputations in several nearby villages, but...
"I'm not sure, you'd better prepare for the worst."
It makes sense. In this world with supernatural powers, the real direction of medical development has shifted towards supernatural powers. What good techniques could possibly be left for ordinary people like them?
Although his master had performed such surgery, and he had even observed it closely and assisted him, even his master could only achieve a survival rate of about 20% through various means.
Even his master is like this, so his skill level can't be much better than his master's, but now he has no choice but to bite the bullet and go for it.
Just as he was setting up the venue, a voice came from behind.
"Can I try? It'll only take two minutes."
He turned around and saw Fran holding a very special bottle filled with a green liquid that shimmered with gold.
