Unexpected Plot
The Moon Maple Territory was completely silent at night; not even a single guard was at the designated post.
The guard who should have been standing there was already dead; he had been shot in the head by an arrow that appeared out of nowhere.
Anna glanced at the other watchtowers in Moon Maple City, and once she was certain that the guards on those towers had all perished from her arrows, she signaled behind her.
"You can come out now, but please keep your voice down. If you wake up the guards, there's nothing I can do."
Behind the large rock where Anna was standing, Aila came out first and spoke to Anna.
"Anna, Sister Anna... Without you, we might not have been able to catch that person this time."
Anna scratched her head sheepishly and asked with some curiosity.
"You went through so much trouble to finally capture Wolf Fang Territory today, why did you come straight here today and drag me into it?"
Just today, during the day, the Radiant Sect liberated Wolf Fang Territory.
Despite the Wolf Fang Territory's plea for help, three more knights and more than ten Knight Attendant the territory.
However, faced with a mountain full of firearms, the Knight Attendant could offer almost no assistance.
The knights were unable to break through the lines or disrupt the artillery, and could only watch helplessly as the cannons bombarded the city walls, wearing down their defensive advantage.
This battle was practically impossible for the knights to win. The walls they built were not high and the materials were of poor quality, because that was all the walls they could build in their small town.
However, the large number of Formal Rank Profession still caused trouble for the believers' progress.
However, the number of believers has increased significantly, and consequently, the number of Priest with Formal Rank has also increased.
With the added support of well-equipped followers, they managed to capture Wolf Fang Territory after half a day.
"Sister Anna, thank you so much... We must eliminate that sinner; it's a command from the Deity."
"Did Fu... the Proxy send you here?"
Anna was rushed upstairs, unsure if Fran had any intention of bringing her here.
"We wanted to consult the Proxy before we came, but unfortunately, we couldn't find her."
"In order not to miss the opportunity, we had no choice but to bring Anna along."
"This was the order that the Proxy Lord conveyed to us."
Anna raised an eyebrow; she seemed to know what Aila was planning to do tonight.
"Today we captured several rather special enemies; they worship the Lord of Shadows, whose existence is absolutely intolerable to our Deity."
"We interrogated him, and although we couldn't get the location of several other believers, he revealed the location of a very important person."
"The Proxy of the Lord of Shadows is currently in Moon Maple City."
"So you're going to... take down that so-called Proxy of the Lord of Shadows tonight...?"
"We must punish him as punishment for his wrongdoing in worshipping the Lord of Shadows, and then end his life, for he has worshipped an evil god and his soul is no longer pure."
Anna's face stiffened; she already knew what was going to happen next, and she replied.
"So you wanted me to come here so quickly because you wanted to take advantage of this time to capture that so-called Proxy of the Lord of Shadows."
"Yes, Sister Anna, just to be on the safe side, so... can you help us?"
Anna scratched her head, sighed, and then agreed to it.
"Then let's hurry..."
Although it seems like this is helping the church purge heretics, it feels really strange.
In the past, Anna only took action against someone if that person was hateful, if killing them was absolutely necessary, or if that person had offended her.
Aside from killing for money, Anna did almost everything she could when she was Mercenary.
Now, it feels really strange to attack someone simply because they have different beliefs.
Aila brought five First Order Profession with her on this mission to ensure its success.
Moreover, the personnel configuration is already almost complete, and with Anna, who can kill indiscriminately among First Order Profession, it's enough to deal with the lord here and the Proxy who worships the Lord of Shadows.
Anna led her people up the city wall. The lord's castle was located in the southeast corner of Moon Maple City. They followed the wall directly to the castle's small gate.
"This is where the Proxy of the Lord of Shadows is located... By the way, are you going to deal with that lord as well?"
Anna Ella and the others shook their heads.
"Just incapacitate that lord. We're short-handed here, so killing him wouldn't make a difference."
"A lord can only stay within his own territory, so he can't run away."
"Then I'll go deal with that lord first, you guys go find that so-called Proxy."
Anna suggested.
"Can."
Aila agreed to the proposal.
The group quickly sprang into action, and a Priest used divine magic to forcibly unlock the door, making a faint sound.
Because the noise would alert their enemies, everyone quickened their pace.
Anna squinted in the dim light for a moment, then walked up the circular staircase.
Aila, accompanied by the Priest behind her, went up to the second floor and stopped, then ran towards a room at the end of the corridor.
They could sense a strong, unpleasant energy permeating the room.
They all recognized this fluctuation; it came from the followers of the Lord of Shadows.
They practically started running down the corridor, and Aila made a quick decision.
She used her divine magic directly on the door, and a dazzling light shot out from her hand, smashing straight through the wooden door and bursting out with an even brighter light inside.
Then the other Priest didn't hesitate either. They followed the guiding spell, and a series of beams of light flashed in the corridor before they were quickly thrown into the room.
The wooden door nearly shattered under the barrage of attacks, with only the lower half remaining functional.
One of the Priest felt that was enough, so he first cast a shield on himself, and then squeezed through the gap in the wooden door.
His movements were swift; the moment he entered, his arm glowed, indicating that [Holy Light Strike] was ready.
But when he tried to find the enemy, he was stunned, not because there was no one in the room.
They knew the followers of the Lord of Shadows could become invisible, but they also knew that divine magic could break their invisibility.
What was presented to the Priest was a somewhat absurd scene.
A person was lying on the collapsed bed on the ground, bleeding from their magical attack.
Judging from the fluctuations, the person in front of them was the Proxy of the Lord of Shadows they were looking for.
But something seemed off about the other person.
The Priest looked down and noticed that the other person was breathing very shallowly. If it weren't for the fact that the person was still bleeding, he might have thought that the person was sleeping there.
Only then did the Priest realize something else: their movements had been quite large and had made a lot of noise.
If this were a lord's castle, the servants would have been screaming and wailing long ago upon hearing such a commotion.
Why is it so quiet now?!
Darian finally woke up from his sleep with great difficulty. He felt a sharp pain in his head, and just as he tried to relieve the pain with his hands, he realized that his hands seemed to be bound behind his back.
He opened his eyes with all his might, and only after blinking away the blurriness from his right eye did he realize his condition.
He felt as if he were still inside Reed's castle. The stone bricks on the walls were very familiar to Darian; he had lived in the castle for almost a month, so he was naturally very familiar with it.
However, he was not in a good condition. His arms were tied behind his back, and he couldn't exert any strength in his body.
"The believer in that evil god has awakened."
His commotion seemed to attract someone's attention, which made him struggle even harder.
However, his arms and ankles still seemed to be bleeding, and in his poor physical condition, even as an Proxy of Deity, there was nothing he could do.
He tried to speak, but choked on the blood blocking his throat, leaving him puzzled: how had he gotten so injured?
Those people didn't give him any more time to think. Soon he heard a series of footsteps, and only then did he realize that he had been facing away from the cell door, so he couldn't see who was coming.
"Waaaaah... Ahhh..."
All he could utter were meaningless groans.
"How's it going with your plan? How's he doing now?" It was a rather kind female voice, like that of a young girl.
"Priest Aila, after we captured him, to prevent his escape, we severed his tendons in his hands and feet and are still bleeding him."
"We are still using divine magic to temporarily sustain his life, but for some reason, he only just regained consciousness."
"A normal person should regain consciousness quickly after experiencing such intense pain."
"Where did this bunch of lunatics come from?" Darian struggled even harder, feeling that if he did nothing, he might really die here.
At this point, Darian was already prepared to summon the Lord of Shadows at all costs.
But to his despair, no matter how he called out, he received no response.
"How could this be? Don't you usually respond immediately to these kinds of emergencies?"
As Darian sank into despair, Aila's voice continued to ring out.
"I've already spoken with the Proxy and explained the situation here. She told us not to carry out any additional public executions, just kill them directly."
"In that case, since he's already awake..."
Aila paused for a moment, then continued.
"To the unknown, may your soul remember that faith in an evil god is unforgivable, and may your soul find its true resting place."
The other Priest repeated it.
"Alright, let his soul be separated from the evil god."
With a desperate sob, Darian's life came to an end.
