An Outrageous Interview

Fran walked ahead, and nearly half the reporters followed her. Most of those who stayed behind were assistants. They all figured getting the first interview with Fran would make a bigger splash than waiting at the Duel Arena for a major story.

Fran had never accepted an interview before. Plenty of people were curious about the contestant who had won thirty-one straight matches in the Preliminaries, then another thirty-three in the Main Tournament.

Despite that unbeaten record, no information about Fran had surfaced.

Ordinarily, a Magic Duel competitor with achievements like hers would have a heap of little stories written about her. But Fran had always avoided interviews, so none of the speculation about her held up.

And now rumors were circulating that Fran had bought off opponents and fixed matches. That was a story waiting to explode.

Many reporters had probably prepared questions designed to lure Fran into saying something she shouldn't.

Now that Fran was willing to be interviewed, they certainly weren't going to let the chance slip away.

After a small room had been hastily set up, Fran stood in the center and let the reporters capture her image with their Alchemy Devices.

Devices that could record an image in an instant were still expensive. If Fran hadn't agreed to an interview, the reporters probably wouldn't have been willing to use them.

After a brief discussion, the reporters sent forward Declan, a star reporter for Number Three Daily. He was the most experienced among them, and his newspaper had the greatest reach. He would ask the first question.

The star reporter was an old man and a Second Order Mage. An excellent reporter, Declan chose his questions with precision.
