The Greater Demon's Name
Because Oscar's memory was somewhat confused, he didn't realize that he was still wearing a black robe when he met ' Lai,' and hadn't had time to take it off.
The key point is that he's wearing a black robe, which makes it seem like he's doing something shady. But what one wears is a matter of personal freedom; at most, it might arouse some suspicion.
However, these people who colluded with Demon clearly did not distinguish between their work clothes and disguises when wearing these black robes.
As a result, Oscar's black robe still had a small piece of Demon's horn stuck to it, and the right sleeve was a darker color, emitting a putrid smell of Demon blood.
For some reason, Oscar felt somewhat immune to the smell of those Demon materials, which made him unaware that simply standing there was telling people that he had some connection with Demon.
' Lai ' was stunned for a moment when he saw Oscar, not expecting such a big dish to come out right away.
"The Stars are really amazing..." She raised an eyebrow; this was almost too amazing.
As if the Stars knew her purpose, she easily found the only two-story building on the street when she arrived.
The other houses were either single-story or three-story, so she immediately set her sights on this small house.
When Oscar opened the door, she felt that the Stars were afraid she would miss the house, so they deliberately arranged for someone dressed so suspiciously to appear at the door, lest she overlook it after finding it.
"Is something the matter?" Oscar asked ' Lai ', slightly regaining his composure, though he hadn't yet realized the inappropriateness of his attire.
' Lai ' looked up, but didn't ask any questions immediately. Instead, he thought for a moment about how to extract information from these people.
She hadn't expected to find these people so quickly, so she hadn't made any preparations.
Her only goal was the information these people possessed; she didn't care about their lives or actions, and it was best not to interfere.
How can I get close to these people? I can't exactly say I'm someone who admires Demon, and that's why I came here specifically to find them?
She couldn't explain how she found this place. Given the current attitude of the city's people towards Demon, they were either heartbroken or filled with hatred, wishing they could devour their flesh and sleep on their skin.
Then she remembered what she had seen on the Stone Tablet.
"I've come here in the name of the Greater Demon Marius to take a look..."
Oscar was a little confused. He knew he was someone who colluded with the Demon, and therefore should befriend those who were connected to the Demon.
But who is this Greater Demon Marius? He's never heard of him before.
Someone like Oscar, who colludes with Demon, wouldn't be directly taught the names of the Greater Demon in the Abyss by the third-tier Demon he's dealing with. It's here to conquer this place, not to teach the continent about the Greater Demon of the Abyss.
Just as he was about to ask who this Demon really was, his personality as a wealthy businessman suddenly kicked in.
He realized that he seemed to be operating underground. Although he had second-tier combat power, it was best to avoid conflict and leave traces.
So that was all he could say.
"Sir, you flatter me. There are no Demon here. I'm just a small merchant..."
' Lai ' stared into Oscar's eyes for several seconds, and for some reason, Oscar suddenly felt guilty and avoided ' Lai's' gaze; he didn't know why.
Wasn't he a big businessman before? He used to lie so confidently, so why is he so flustered now when facing a Profession?
"It's alright. Once you make contact with that colluding Demon, I think that will prove the truth of my words."
"You jest. I've only ever seen a few Demon killed at the city gates. How could I possibly be colluding with Demon?"
Oscar smiled, gradually regaining his composure. Drawing on his past experience as a businessman, he quickly organized his thoughts.
It was only when he instinctively tried to move his sleeve that he realized something was amiss.
He lowered his head slightly, only then realizing that he had actually come out wearing that black robe, and cold sweat poured down his face.
Before he could react further, a pale arm reached out to his chest. The hand had long, slender fingers that looked like they hadn't been trimmed in a while, with long nails, and grabbed his collar.
He didn't know whether he should resist or not, so he didn't even try to dodge and was simply lifted up by ' Lai '.
Even though he was a Second Order Profession User, his weight didn't increase much with his Order, so ' Lai ' easily lifted him off the ground.
"Sir, let's talk this out. We can discuss this in detail..." He still wanted to use the persona of a businessman to communicate with ' Lai '.
However, ' Lai ' didn't really want to listen to him; she had no idea if any Demon here recognized the name ' Marius '.
What if this thing is only known to many Demon in the Abyss of the Material Realm, and the Demon of the Spirit Realm are not the same species as those in the Material Realm? Wouldn't she be stuck on two fronts?
Moreover, who knows when these people who collude with Demon Demon contact them? What if someone only talks to them once a week, and they just talked to them yesterday?
So what ' Lai ' needs to do now is to establish his reputation so that these people who collude with Demon won't turn against him immediately.
"Wait, there's nothing inside..."
With a powerful swing of its arm, ' Lai ' spun halfway through the air, carrying Oscar's body like a rag doll, slightly bent over, before crashing to the ground.
Boom!!
With the sound of shattering bricks, the ground was knocked down by ' Lai ' by half a meter, and Oscar's head was deeply embedded in the hole.
She didn't use much strength, but in this state, Oscar couldn't exert much force, and even though he was a Second Order Profession User, he couldn't break free for a while.
With the answer already known, ' Lai ' went straight to the door to the basement. Just by looking at the door, she knew she had definitely found the place.
"We're already this far, aren't you going to let me in to take a look, and maybe contact that Demon again?"
' Lai ' turned his head and looked at Oscar, who was struggling to break free from the floor and whose hand was already manipulating black mist to attack ' Lai '.
Oscar stared at ' Lai's' unwavering gaze, and his hands faltered.
"It would be easier to take her down there and dispose of her," Oscar thought for a moment, then immediately said.
"Let's go down and take a look..." His movements were slow, his eyes fixed on ' Lai ', his vigilance visible to the naked eye.
' Lai ' chuckled and made way for Oscar to unlock the door.
Although the door couldn't stop her, the commotion she had just caused was significant enough. Even though she had the rank granted by the guards, it wouldn't be easy to handle if things escalated too much.
Moreover, ' Lai ' actually had no intention of dealing with these people who colluded with Demon, since it would greatly affect the outcome of the Trial.
The men in black inside the basement were whispering amongst themselves before the two arrived. The huge commotion they had just witnessed was as if C4 had exploded right above their heads, something that underground workers like them couldn't help but be on high alert for.
At this moment, the men in black robes noticed another flaw in the meeting place: it had only one entrance and exit.
Upon learning this, everyone's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. How did they choose this meeting place? Why a basement with only one entrance and exit?
No matter how hard they tried to recall, they couldn't figure out why they had chosen this basement.
"Greetings everyone, I have come on the orders of the Greater Demon Marius..."
"Don't you all know each other?" ' Lai ' deliberately feigned surprise, leaving the men in black robes present quite puzzled.
"Why did you bring outsiders here?" someone shouted angrily upon seeing Oscar behind ' Lai '.
"What is Maris? Is she also a Demon?" Someone confused the words "Lai" in the chaos.
"No, I surrender..." Someone immediately raised their hands. If ' Lai ' hadn't failed to reveal which side she was on, he would definitely have added, "To whom are we surrendering?"
"Quiet down, everyone. She claims to have been sent by the Greater Demon Marius..."
The atmosphere finally quieted down, and everyone's eyes turned to Oscar. After Oscar entered the basement, he first exchanged glances with the Second Order Profession User, signaling them to get ready.
And he continued:
"But we haven't received any orders from the Demon, nor do we know if this Greater Demon even exists, so..."
"Now we're going to make an exception and contact the Demon outside the city. Nobody objects, right?"
Oscar was still somewhat wary of whether ' Lai ' was sent by that Greater Demon, and ultimately wanted to find out.
After all, the strength that ' Lai ' just displayed was extraordinary even among second-tier professionals. Even if there were several other Second Order Profession User below him, he wasn't confident that he could defeat this unexpected visitor.
But if a real fight breaks out, they won't be able to protect the others. Although the others didn't contribute their efforts to the collusion with the Demon, they certainly contributed money and connections.
Oscar pulled out a piece of 'meat' with several black tentacles from under a table. ' Lai ' thought the material of this thing looked just like a piece of meat.
At the same time, this piece of meat seemed to be alive; the moment it was taken out, it breathed, contracted, and relaxed, with its smooth black tentacles extending outwards.
' Lai ' remained expressionless, but his eyes had already scanned the basement, and his forehead was tightly furrowed.
She discovered that there were no paper documents at all; obviously, leaving paper documents would be too dangerous for underground workers like them.
This is not good news for ' Lai ', because this means she can only use torture or the Voice of the Siren to extract the information she wants.
Of course, this is assuming that the Demon doesn't recognize Marius, the Greater Demon of the Abyss.
Marius is a Fourth Order Greater Demon, a fact that ' Lai ' obtained from the Stone Tablet.
Although it seemed that this Greater Demon had been dead for an unknown period of time, ' Lai ' felt that the news of its demise might not have spread so quickly.
She was betting that this Demon from the Spirit Realm knew Marius's name, but didn't know that Marius was no longer alive.
It's not a problem if she bets wrong; she can just use force. However, that would affect the entire Trial.
"Marius!! That really is a Greater Demon!!" The Demon's surprised voice came from the side of the flesh, which made ' Lai ' and the group of men in black relax.
