The Graduation Exam and the Scroll of Seals

Konoha Ninja School was bustling today. Another class of children was about to graduate and become real ninjas, capable of standing on their own.

As the children diligently sat their exams, a young man stood atop a five-story building across from the school gate. His fair skin set off his faintly rosy lips, and his handsome, striking features were framed by a perfectly shaped face. Three dazzling studs of unknown material glittered in his left ear, adding a touch of rebelliousness to his sunny, dashing appearance.

The boy looked about twelve or thirteen. He wore a modified outfit, black on top and red below, somewhat like the robes of Emperor Qin.

In the world of Naruto, anyone who could walk around in such an over-the-top outfit and pull it off had to be our reincarnated traveler, Hyuga Kamizuki.

At that moment, veins bulged around Kamizuki's eyes as he watched the Ninja Academy.

That's right! Anyone who saw a member of the Hyuga Clan like this would know that the clan's Byakugan was active.

Ordinary members of the Hyuga Clan could maintain this state for only half an hour to an hour before their chakra ran too low.

Kamizuki was different, though. With his Tenseigan, using the Byakugan state consumed very little chakra. Given the Kage Level reserves he had reached by the middle stage, he could use it almost whenever he pleased.

Sorry, I've gotten off track again. Back to the point.

With his Byakugan active, Kamizuki watched a figure at the school whose fiery-red chakra was wrapped in pale blue. The owner of that chakra was, of course, Uzumaki Naruto, who did nothing but make a damn mess of everything.

Kamizuki had been looking forward to the day Hinata and the others graduated for a long time.

Since he knew the story, he also knew that Naruto would fail the upcoming exam. Afterward, Mizuki would egg him on to steal the Scroll of Seals.

And once Naruto had stolen it, Hyuga Kamizuki would discreetly borrow it from him and memorize as many useful secret techniques as he could in the shortest time possible.

After a morning of exams, they finally came to an end.

Almost every student who took the graduation exam passed. There was only one exception: Uzumaki Naruto.

Naruto had failed the graduation exam several times already. Now he sat dejectedly on a swing beside the schoolyard, watching his friends tell their parents and friends how amazingly they had passed.

Nearby, several women pointed at Naruto and spoke ill of him.

Hearing them made Naruto feel even worse. Just then, Mizuki came up beside him from who knew where and said a few things to him. Then the two of them disappeared.

As Mizuki led Naruto away, Third Sarutobi Hiruzen watched from the classroom doorway.

Sarutobi Hiruzen called Umino Iruka over and gave him a few instructions. Iruka then left to carry out the Third's orders.

After sending Iruka off, the Third glanced out of the corner of his eye at the rooftop across from the school, then left as well.

Kamizuki had been on the rooftop, but as soon as Mizuki led Naruto away, he left too. Keeping his distance, he followed Naruto and Mizuki and silently watched Mizuki deceive Naruto.

After leaving the school with Mizuki, Naruto arrived at an isolated rooftop. Mizuki patiently tried to console him, telling him not to hold a grudge against Iruka and the like.

Mizuki's words made Naruto think about how Iruka had treated him over the years. He came around and decided that Iruka had been right not to let him pass.

Then Mizuki kept him in suspense, drawing his attention to how he might pass the exam.

Finally, Mizuki told Naruto about the Scroll of Seals and left. As he went, a sly, triumphant grin tugged at the corners of his mouth.

After hearing him out, Naruto didn't think much of it. He only thought that if he learned a jutsu from the Scroll of Seals, he could pass the exam and become a real ninja capable of standing on his own.

His blood surged to his head, and he went to steal the Scroll of Seals.

It was already night. Kamizuki silently followed Naruto from a great distance into a stretch of woods. Naruto wound his way through the trees and came to a place that looked like an abandoned warehouse.

Kamizuki saw Naruto sneak inside. Not long afterward, Naruto emerged from the warehouse with a huge scroll strapped to his back.

Kamizuki knew the scroll Naruto carried—almost as tall as Naruto himself—was the Scroll of Seals he wanted. He didn't rush to go ask Naruto to borrow it.

He waited until Naruto had carried the scroll to a relatively safe tree. Just as Naruto was about to open it and take a look—

Kamizuki couldn't wait any longer. He knew the Third would soon send many ninjas out to search for Naruto and the Scroll of Seals.

Iruka and Mizuki would also find Naruto soon. That left him very little time, so he had to move fast.

He didn't want anyone to find out about his actions and become suspicious.

So, just as Naruto was about to open the Scroll of Seals, Kamizuki's eyes abruptly shifted from the Byakugan state to the Tenseigan state. Then he appeared in front of Naruto at top speed.

Naruto was so startled by Kamizuki's sudden appearance that he nearly fell out of the tree.

But the instant Naruto's eyes met Kamizuki's moonlight-like Tenseigan, his will fell under Kamizuki's control.

After taking control of Naruto, Kamizuki made him fall asleep in an instant. Then he took the Scroll of Seals from Naruto's arms.

With the scroll in hand, Kamizuki jumped down from the tree. In a clearing beneath it, he spread the entire Scroll of Seals across the grass. Using his moonlight-like Tenseigan, he memorized the whole thing as quickly as possible.

Only after memorizing the entire scroll did Kamizuki roll it back up and put it into Naruto's arms while he still slept in the tree.

Once he had done that, Kamizuki used his Tenseigan's control technique to wake Naruto and implant the method for the Multi-Shadow Clone jutsu into his mind, making him successfully learn the secret technique.

Finally, Kamizuki erased Naruto's memory of him being there and implanted a new memory: after stealing the Scroll of Seals, Naruto had come to the tree on his own and learned the Multi-Shadow Clone jutsu.

Only after finishing all of this did Kamizuki leave and head home. What had happened here had nothing to do with him anymore—not even a little.

Convinced that he had covered his tracks perfectly, Kamizuki happily returned to the Hyuga residence.

But he had forgotten one thing—or rather, one person: Third Sarutobi Hiruzen.

Kamizuki had forgotten that Sarutobi Hiruzen had a Crystal Ball. Through it, Hiruzen could see everything Kamizuki had done that night.
