Background and History

Ji Wujiang once served as a government official, but later concealed himself as a hunched pauper in Qi Capital's Shanty District. There, he exposed the consequences of the Longevity Platform project: commoners were stripped of their land, forced into labor, and kept alive on minimal food rations. He also took in Xiao Yu, offering the child food, literacy, and martial instruction. 271

He recognized Chu Ming beneath his disguise on their first meeting in the Shanty District. Rather than expose him, Ji Wujiang quietly assisted his investigation into the Meian Mountain Stone Processing Plant by directing him toward former foreman Sun Jun, whose records led to evidence of Cui Ye and Cui Dong's corruption. 274 288

Ji Wujiang is Xiang Yue's master and the former master of the Western Expedition Army's commander, Ji Wu'ao. Wu'ao's death shaped Ji Wujiang's refusal to hand down cultivation manuals freely: after rapidly advancing through an unsuitable technique, Wu'ao reached a dead end in his martial path and died in battle. 288

A century before the present story, Ji Wujiang and Changqin Jiuyan used the three Bluestone Ancient Lamps to suppress sixth-rank Evil Spirits in West Rong, Pingzhong, and Chi'an Prefectures. 324

Bluestone Ancient Lamp Crisis

Ji Wujiang investigates the theft of the Bluestone Ancient Lamps and the awakening of the sixth-rank Evil Spirits. He kills Blood Fiend after the latter enters the Qi Sea Realm, then clashes with Luo Mu while the Black Flame Cult attempts to refine the Pingzhong Prefecture lamp. 324 329
