The Treatment Room they had just left seemed to still hold seven people, their silhouettes faintly resembling Chen Ge and the others.
Chen Ge rubbed his eyes. When he looked again, Dr. Gao grabbed his arm and pulled him around the corner.
"Did I imagine it?"
The five patients and two doctors had already left the Treatment Room. How could there still be seven people inside?
"Could we still be in the ward? Maybe the ones who came out were our consciousnesses or souls?" Chen Ge shook his head, finding the idea too bizarre to believe. He didn't dare go back and investigate alone, so he followed the others onward.
Their immediate priority was to get Zhang Jingjiu to the emergency room and stabilize his injuries.
Dr. Sun, Patient Number One, and Patient Number Two led the way. They found a stretcher at the nurses' station and carried Zhang Jingjiu toward the stairs.
Number Four seemed terrified. Clutching the torn Paper Butterfly, she stayed close to Number Five.
At first glance, everyone seemed perfectly normal. If they weren't wearing Patient Uniforms, nobody would have guessed that five of the seven had serious mental illnesses.
"I've been to the fifth floor before. The patients in the severe-care ward were rowdier than one another. Even in the middle of the night, this floor was always noisy. But now there isn't a sound coming from any of the wards. Were the patients transferred somewhere else in advance?"
That was the only explanation Chen Ge could think of. He didn't believe anyone could kill every patient, or that the killer could keep every patient in a mental hospital from making a sound.
