"The favorability levels of the Specters you possess are as follows:
Yin Guoheng (Resentful Spirit): Stranger (You cannot yet be considered friends; he only helped you out of instinct.)
Du Ruoshui (Resentful Spirit): Stranger.
Yin Munan (Resentful Spirit): Stranger.
Yin Xiaoxiao (Specter): Slightly Favorable (You have caught her attention; in her eyes, you are a bit closer than a stranger.)
Zhang Ya (Red Specter): Deeply Attached (You are different to her. She likes you, though she likes the version of you that is already dead.)
Specter favorability has been unlocked. You can increase favorability by having them hear screams containing the negative emotions of visitors, gifting them items imbued with resentment, or completing favorability quests.
Once favorability reaches a certain threshold, she will selectively follow your instructions.
Note: Only Specters with deep resentment and bloody, evil natures will have favorability quests. Completing these quests can significantly increase favorability and allow her to help you complete one task that does not go against her own will!"
This newly unlocked feature in the mobile game gave Chen Ge a deeper understanding of the "individuals" by his side.
He pulled the smallest ragdoll from his pocket. On the surface, this doll was no different from the others, but the mobile game had given her a different assessment: the other three were merely Resentful Spirits, while only she was a Specter.
"You're a Specter looking like this?" Chen Ge reached out and poked Xiaoxiao's cheek. Suspended in mid-air, Xiaoxiao seemed a bit angry. The feeling she gave Chen Ge was like a kitten that hadn't been weaned yet, baring its fangs and claws while shouting, "I'm super fierce!"
"I suppose this counts as an unexpected gain." If Yin Xiaoxiao was a gentle and kind anomaly among Specters, then Zhang Ya was likely the other extreme. This was the first time he had seen the mobile game specifically provide a "Red Specter" rating.
"What is the difference between a Red Specter and a regular Specter?" Chen Ge tried tapping on Zhang Ya's name. The screen flickered, and a blood-red interface appeared.
"Do you wish to accept Zhang Ya's favorability quest? Warning! This quest carries a certain degree of danger!"
The blood-red exclusive interface made Chen Ge break out in a cold sweat. "Didn't it say only Specters with deep resentment and evil natures have favorability quests? Is my luck in certain areas really that good? I pulled a top-tier one on my first try?"
In truth, the subtext in Chen Ge's mind was that he could do without such a "top-tier" prize, but he was afraid that Zhang Ya, who was hiding somewhere unknown, might hear him, so he didn't dare say it out loud.
"Deeply attached, likes the version of me that's dead—this sister has some psychological issues!"
After exiting the phone page, the fear brought on by the Mirror Monster had completely dissipated. Compared to the one he had pulled from his own "lottery," the black shadow in the mirror seemed quite ordinary.
However, this did not mean Chen Ge would let it go. On the contrary, Chen Ge had already marked it as a target to be eliminated at all costs. Only by resolving the Mirror Monster could the House of Horrors operate safely.
The unlocking of Specter favorability gave Chen Ge more options. In his view, this feature on the Black Phone was likely preparation for having Specters work at the House of Horrors later on.
As the game content became more refined, Chen Ge's interest in the game grew even stronger.
After reviewing the newly unlocked features, Chen Ge began to examine his second gain—the Yin Pupil.
The reward for a Nightmare-level quest could alter one's own body. Chen Ge tried looking into the distance, but aside from seeing things slightly more clearly in the dark, the Yin Pupil seemed to have no other function.
"Perhaps this reward, like the Corpse Makeup, requires a specific environment to trigger." Looking at the shards of the mirror on the ground, he picked one up and held it to his face. Externally, his eyes hadn't changed at all; they were exactly the same as an ordinary person's.
"Literally speaking, the Yin Pupil should allow me to see things that ordinary people cannot, but..." Chen Ge held Xiaoxiao up in front of him, but he didn't see anything strange. "Is it that I haven't mastered the method, or are there special techniques for using it?"
After fumbling around for a while without success, Chen Ge stopped worrying about it.
He stretched his numb body and brought his phone in front of him, sitting in the bathroom to start editing the video.
"I've suffered so much; it would be a disservice to myself not to share it with more people."
He first uploaded the original version of the video to the paranormal forum. It was four in the morning, and Chen Ge had expected few people to watch it, but as soon as the new video was posted, people began commenting below.
Chen Ge glanced at the comments; the first one was actually from a forum moderator. After a moment of thought, he added a text description of the gameplay process beneath the video.
Two or three minutes later, the comments gradually increased. Chen Ge's account was already quite famous on the forum; some people who had already fallen asleep were even woken up by friends specifically to watch this video.
"Lying in a bathtub full of water alone at 3:30 AM—forget everything else, I wouldn't dare do that even with the lights on."
"This video is even more eerie than the last one the OP posted!"
"Did you hear any strange sounds underwater? Or see anything strange? Big boss, please reply!"
There were indeed a few comments that made sense. Chen Ge scanned through them briefly, and just like last time, he didn't reply. He exited the forum and began editing the video.
He cut out the segment from when he lay down in the bathtub to when he finally broke free, totaling sixty-three seconds.
For short videos, the shorter and more shocking they were, the better the effect.
But this time, Chen Ge did the opposite. He posted a sixty-three-second video titled: "Challenge: Holding Breath for One Minute."
Once the video was posted, everyone following Chen Ge's ID received a notification. Some started leaving comments before even finishing the video.
"Challenge holding breath? No horror video today?"
"Trying to be mysterious? Someone challenging themselves to down a bottle of liquor isn't more exciting than this?"
"Holding breath for a minute? I'll try it too."
"Everyone pack it up, the streamer has lost his touch... Holy sh*t! What is that thing crouching by the bathtub looking at me?! Get out of my phone!"
