Background

Zhang Ya was a student at West City Private Academy. In life, she was tall, elegant, gentle, and noticeably isolated from the five girls around her; even when they changed into ballet dresses together, Zhang Ya followed behind them alone. She carried a gift bag containing five boxes of candy and appeared to be in high spirits shortly before the tragedy. 56 58

She died four years before Chen Ge's investigation. Her death was suspected to have been a forced suicide, the first in a sequence of six student suicides within two weeks at the academy. 60 Chen Ge later found her blood-stained red dance shoes before dawn, completing half of her favorability mission and gaining the ability to make one request that did not violate her will. 61

After becoming a Vengeful Spirit, Zhang Ya's nature changed drastically. A former principal of the Ghost School, reduced to a Ragdoll, claimed that she entered the school after its Door Pusher, devoured numerous Vengeful Spirits, killed the Door Pusher, and reached the center of the Blood-colored City. The same source identified her heart—condensed from her Obsession—as her sole weakness. 900 901

Appearance

In life, Zhang Ya was described as a tall, slender girl of about 1.7 meters with an elegant, gentle presence. As a Red-Clad Specter, she takes on a far more ominous form: pale skin, blood-red clothing, black veins, and vast amounts of predatory Black Hair. 56 246 463

Before her death, Zhang Ya was gentle and reserved despite being excluded by her peers. Her death and resentment transformed her into a cruel, tyrannical spirit who tears apart or devours those in her way. 56 186

Her affection toward Chen Ge is equally extreme. When her favorability becomes “Uncontrollable,” her possessiveness makes Chen Ge fear that she may turn him into a mannequin so that they can remain together forever. 246 Despite this danger, she repeatedly protects him and prefers to demonstrate her intent through actions rather than words. 929 1231
