"Senior, why do I feel like those paper figures are watching us?" He Shan clutched the door panel and refused to step inside. "I'm not joking! There's definitely something wrong with those paper figures! Could they be people in disguise? Damn, I keep feeling like they're going to get up off the floor as soon as we get close!"

The paper figures Chen Ge had treated with his Corpse Makeup skill all had an indescribable eeriness about them. They were clearly lifeless objects, yet they seemed to hold a trace of vitality.

Gao Ruxue glared at He Shan, wishing she could call him a useless teammate. Fear was contagious. She hadn't been that scared at first, but his words had made her skin crawl, too. "Can you talk less? Keep whining and I'll leave you here by yourself."

She entered the room first and looked around. The windows on the walls of the main room were just decorations; they didn't lead outside.

"Senior, let's hurry up and leave. This place is seriously creepy. It's completely sealed off, so the exit can't be here."

"The Haunted House Owner is skilled at psychological suggestion and knows how to read people's minds. So we have to do the opposite of what we'd expect. The less likely a place seems, the more carefully we should search it." Gao Ruxue walked around the room, and the breeze she stirred made the paper figures on the floor sway.

Watching from outside the door, He Shan was terrified. "But there's nowhere to hide in here. You can see everything at a glance. Where could the exit be?"

"Nowhere to hide? Who told you that?" Gao Ruxue stood in the middle of the main room, raised her long, pale leg, and planted her foot on the Red Coffin. "Come help me. I'm opening the coffin!"

"Open the coffin?!" He Shan's mouth twitched. He was completely at a loss. "Is that really appropriate...?"

"Do you plan to stay in this Haunted House for the rest of your life?" Under Gao Ruxue's pressure, He Shan edged into the room inch by inch, carefully avoiding the paper figures on the floor. Then he bent down and grabbed the other end of the coffin lid.

"I'll count to three. We'll push together."

"Okay."

"One, two..."

"Thud!"

Gao Ruxue had only counted halfway when a strange sound rang out in the room!

"What was that?" He Shan clutched the coffin lid and shuddered in fright.

"Shh." Gao Ruxue made a gesture for silence. She looked around, then turned her gaze to the Red Coffin in front of her. "It sounded like it came from inside the coffin."

At her words, He Shan's face turned pale. His Adam's apple bobbed, and his hands clutched the coffin lid as if it were a red-hot iron plate. "Sis, you're like a real sister to me. Let's get out of here!"

"Stay calm. Don't you think it's strange that the sound came from inside the coffin while we were opening it?"

"A sound came from inside the coffin! How is that just strange? That's terrifying!" Under the influence of Gloomy Sunday, the fear in He Shan's heart had been magnified without limit. All he wanted now was to get out as soon as possible.

"Think about it carefully. There are only two possible explanations for a sound coming from inside a coffin. First, there could be a staff member hiding in there. When we open it, he might jump out and scare us. Second, there could be some kind of mechanical device inside. Opening the coffin might trigger it and cause an unexpected event. Either way, the coffin is an important prop in the ghost marriage scenario. If we want to escape, opening it is a necessary step." Gao Ruxue patted the coffin lid. "Don't hesitate. Open it."

"I don't know what you're talking about, but it sounds pretty convincing."

He Shan and Gao Ruxue pushed together. The heavy coffin lid slowly slid aside. When it had opened a quarter of the way, a sudden explosion burst from the dilapidated Sarcophagus!

"Bang!"

The coffin collapsed in every direction, and countless paper figures and Spirit Money sprang out of it. The eerie laughter of an unfamiliar woman rang through the room, and the door began closing by itself!

"Run!" He Shan was close to the door. Terrified, he didn't spare a thought for his senior. He darted toward the exit, but before he could stick his head out, a woman's face appeared from outside and leaned in!

Pale, exquisite, breathtakingly beautiful!

"Holy shit!!!"

Caught completely off guard, He Shan swung his fist at the face. But its owner seemed to have anticipated his reaction. As if they'd rehearsed it countless times, she dodged before his fist could land.

"There's a ghost!" His punch hit nothing. In a panic, he scrambled toward the other side of the courtyard.

"He Shan! Don't run off!" Gao Ruxue shouted. She had just seen a flash of red follow He Shan into the side room.

"The side rooms are where the younger generation lived. Oh no! He Shan went into the room where the Vengeful Spirit lived!" Gao Ruxue hurried toward the door, but it had already closed, trapping her inside the main room. "Are they trying to separate us and pick us off one by one? We're just touring a Haunted House! Is there really any need to be this vicious?!"

The coffin lay in pieces, and paper figures were scattered all over the floor. Surrounded by them, Gao Ruxue's thoughts were in disarray. She kicked at the door, and it took her more than a minute to finally get it open.

In that single minute, the outside world seemed to have changed drastically.

"Xiaoshan? He Shan!" Gao Ruxue called out twice, but no one answered. Apart from the Haunted House's eerie background music, the only sound was Spirit Money scraping across the floor.

"What's going on? This Haunted House isn't that big. He Shan couldn't have failed to hear me. Did something happen to him?" Images of crime scenes flashed through Gao Ruxue's mind, and she had no idea why they had suddenly come to her.

She followed the covered walkway, using her memory to find the West Wing Room. "Xiaoshan ran in this direction."

"Creak..."

She pushed open the dilapidated Wooden Door. A paper wedding character had been cut out and pasted on it, but it fell off as Gao Ruxue entered the side room.

The room had been decorated as a bridal chamber. The strange part was that every decoration was white. It didn't feel festive at all—in fact, it was unsettling.

"Where did he go?" The room had a strange atmosphere. Its only light came from the white lantern hanging outside the door. Gao Ruxue moved forward slowly. A chill wind stirred behind her, and the exposed skin on her body grew cold, as if an invisible little hand were gently brushing against her.

Her shoes crunched over Spirit Money, and strange things occasionally brushed against the tops of her feet. The light was too dim for her to make anything out, so she gritted her teeth and quickened her pace.

She lifted the curtain to the inner room and stopped in the doorway. The room was empty. Aside from a bed wrapped in curtains, there were only two Bronze Mirrors facing each other against the walls.

"I saw He Shan run into this room with my own eyes. It's only been a minute or two. How could he have disappeared? Could the exit be hidden in here? Did He Shan stumble across it and already get out?"

Thoughts raced through Gao Ruxue's mind. She took a deep breath and stepped into the room. As she moved, two sets of footsteps sounded at the same time!

"Who's behind me?!"

She spun around, but all she saw was a Bronze Mirror reflecting her own figure.
