Standing in the dark stairwell corner, Lan Dong held a dirty ball of paper. The more he looked at it, the more uneasy he felt.
"Lan Dong, what does the note say?" Liu Kang asked from behind. Lan Dong stood on the steps with his head lowered, not saying a word.
"Brother Dong?" Worried something had happened to Lan Dong, A-Li hurried over.
"Don't panic. It's just a ghost story." Lan Dong casually tossed the crumpled paper beside the Child's mannequin. Holding his phone, he crouched down and aimed the screen's glow at it.
The child looked only five or six years old. It wore red-and-white clothes, with dark brown residue smeared on its shoes. Red cords tied its cuffs and collar, as if someone feared something might crawl out from under its clothes.
"Ghost Doll?" Xiao Chun walked over too. She stared at the child with its head tilted in the corner, her tone changing.
"What's a Ghost Doll? Have you seen a similar mannequin somewhere else?" Liu Kang asked nervously.
"The Ghost Doll is a campus ghost story. They say that after school, if you wander around campus alone, you'll meet a child playing with a ball in the hallway. He'll ask you to play with him. If you refuse, his head will fall off, and he'll chase you nonstop. But if you agree, the child will disappear." Xiao Chun's voice was low.
