Chen Ge's scalp prickled. He didn't dare turn around. His mind was foggy, and he was afraid he might say something taboo and get killed on the spot.
"I'm not sure what you're talking about."
"Twenty years ago, there was a Door in Jiangyuan Residential Complex that was on the verge of being pushed open. No one knew where it was, only that it was somewhere in the complex. Later, the complex was rebuilt, but the Door still wasn't shut. Negative emotions kept seeping out from inside, attracting passing Yin Gods and Vengeful Spirits. Those poor 'people' you just met gathered here because of that Door. I was lucky enough to become Red-Clothed because of it, too."
"If you put it that way, then that Door might really have something to do with me." Chen Ge answered cautiously, "I've forgotten a lot, so I can't be sure about many things. If you could give me a few more clues, I might remember something."
"It was a Door that had been pushed halfway open. It was the first Door like that I'd ever seen. It was as if someone who had fallen into such despair that they could push open a Door had suddenly been saved." The thin, bony hand slowly tightened. The Red-Clothed's voice sounded beside Chen Ge's ear. "A person can only push open a Door when they're at their most desperate. If they can be saved from their despair, then it can't have been the deepest despair."
Chen Ge committed every word the Red-Clothed said to memory. He might not understand any of this now, but as his investigation went deeper, perhaps one day he would understand what it meant.
"I really can't remember. Have you been through that Door? What's inside?" Chen Ge began asking questions himself.
