Chapter Summary: “New Recipes”
- Lingchuan’s new attitude toward danger: Since he is already dead, Lingchuan realizes that poisonous foods no longer pose the same threat to him. He becomes excited at the prospect of eating exotic ingredients—especially enormous squid or octopus tentacles and the beautiful poisonous mushroom he once regretted never trying.
- Lingchuan and Deidara: Lingchuan gives Deidara a replacement visual device resembling a telescope. Deidara discovers that it greatly improves his range of vision, though it cannot protect him from genjutsu. Lingchuan correctly deduces that Deidara had been using the device to watch Itachi, embarrassing him in front of everyone. Deidara asks Sasori whether his behavior had been obvious, but Sasori dismisses the question. Itachi remains completely indifferent, causing Deidara to become even more flustered and fly away with the Two-Tails Jinchūriki.
- Orochimaru and Bone Lord in the Land of Eddies: Orochimaru travels with Bone Lord through the ruined former homeland of the Uzumaki Clan. Bone Lord’s familiarity with the area suggests that he has deep knowledge of its history, possibly dating back to the clan’s destruction. Orochimaru notices the evidence of the massacre and reflects on how strangely little information was released when such a powerful clan was exterminated.
- Discussion of the Uzumaki Clan: Orochimaru questions Bone Lord about the truth behind the Uzumaki Clan’s destruction. Bone Lord avoids giving a direct answer, but his response confirms that he knows more than he reveals. Orochimaru becomes increasingly suspicious of Genkyo’s founder and realizes that Bone Lord may have existed for far longer than expected. Their exchange also highlights Orochimaru’s obsession with longevity and immortality.
- A mysterious visitor: Bone Lord notices a fresh bouquet placed on the ruins, apparently within the last two days. Its presence implies that someone—perhaps a surviving Uzumaki, a descendant, or a friend of the fallen clan—still visits the site. The identity and purpose of this visitor remain unknown.
Character Developments and Interactions
- Lingchuan is portrayed as carefree, practical, and increasingly liberated by his undead status, treating deadly ingredients as potential culinary experiments.
- Deidara remains proud and easily embarrassed, particularly when his interest in Itachi is exposed. His interaction with Lingchuan and Sasori provides comic relief.
- Sasori maintains his detached, blunt personality and refuses to indulge Deidara’s insecurity.
- Itachi remains unreadable and emotionally unresponsive, intensifying Deidara’s embarrassment.
- Orochimaru grows more suspicious of Bone Lord and more intrigued by Genkyo’s ancient origins.
- Bone Lord demonstrates a deep connection to the Uzumaki Clan’s past but deliberately withholds the truth.
