Background / History

Clear Sky Sect's chosen heir

Tang Hao was Tang Chen's most prized grandson. By his early twenties, he had repeatedly broken sect records while learning the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer and Haotian Nine Wonders. Titan, patriarch of the Strength Clan, was willing to recognize him as his master 14.

Tang Chen personally passed down the Great Sumeru Hammer and designated him the next generation's Clear Sky Douluo. After mastering the technique, Tang Hao had no equal among sect members of the same realm and entered the City of Slaughter to obtain Divine Slaughter's Domain 15.

City of Slaughter and the Sect Competition

Five years of life-and-death combat sharpened Tang Hao's hammer techniques beyond Tang Xiao's mastery. However, the killing intent accompanying his new domain required further refinement, and Tang Zhen advised him to seek Tang Yuehua's assistance in Heaven Dou City 22 33.

At the Sect Competition, Tang Hao challenged Chen Xin after Tang Xiao's defeat. Using Great Sumeru Hammer amplification and the sect's hammer arts, he won the arena duel while suffering numerous sword-energy wounds. The victory helped preserve the Clear Sky Sect's reputation and the Clear Sky Hammer's standing as the world's foremost tool martial soul 32 33.

Travels with Tang Xiao and Ah Yin

After reaching Soul Sage at thirty, Tang Hao received the sect's last Inheritance Soul Bone. His ailing father sent him and Tang Xiao abroad to gain experience, obtain rings, and improve their cultivation 34.

The brothers traveled with Ah Yin as sworn siblings, and both developed feelings for her. When Qian Xunji exposed her identity as a transformed Blue Silver Emperor, Tang Hao joined Tang Xiao in fighting him and urged Ah Yin to escape 40 41 46.

Following her capture, the brothers begged Tang Zhen to intervene. Their father refused once he learned that Ah Yin was a soul beast, fearing the consequences for the sect. Tang Hao resolved to surpass Tang Chen and rescue her himself 46.

Rivalry with Qian Xunji

News that Ah Yin would marry Qian Xunji provoked an indiscriminate outburst from Tang Hao. At the wedding, the Second Elder sealed his Soul Power and voice to prevent another incident; Tang Hao could only watch before drowning his distress in alcohol 55 57.

He subsequently trained with greater intensity, determined to surpass Qian Xunji's youngest-Titled-Douluo record and make Ah Yin regret her choice. After reaching Rank 90, he joined the Clear Sky Sect's expedition to the Star Dou Great Forest in pursuit of a 100,000-year ninth ring 65.

At Rank 93, Tang Hao publicly challenged Qian Xunji. He expected that even a draw against an opponent three ranks higher would vindicate the Clear Sky Hammer and damage Spirit Hall's prestige 68.

Qian Xunji instead seized control of his hammer, suppressed his domain, and repeatedly struck him with Soul Power whips. Tang Hao escalated to Haotian Avatar and Asura Hell but was severely injured by a counterpunch. Enraged by Qian Xunji's affection toward Ah Yin, he then detonated all nine rings, causing deaths and injuries among spectators 70 71 72 73 75.

To avert retaliation against the sect, Tang Zhen forced him to kneel and apologize. Qian Xunji took a 100,000-year head soul bone as compensation, then severed Tang Hao's right arm and left leg to extract two Inheritance Soul Bones. Tang Hao's cultivation fell to Soul Sage, while the sect's reputation collapsed and Tang Zhen died from anger and internal injuries 74 75.

Decline and renewed responsibility

Disabled and unable to cultivate further, Tang Hao withdrew into drinking and neglect. He claimed that his obligation to transmit the Great Sumeru Hammer was the only reason he remained alive. His explosion had also disfigured Tang Yuehua, leaving him burdened with guilt 76 87 118.

Learning that Tang San possessed Twin Martial Souls abruptly restored his interest in his son. He acknowledged his failure as a father, chose to respect Tang San's wish to remain outside the sect, and promised to protect him personally 133.

Tang Hao followed Tang San to Shrek Academy and later trained the Shrek Seven Devils. Tang San's account of his previous life rekindled his hope of revenge against Spirit Hall and suggested that the Slaughter King was Tang Chen 135 151 166.

After Ah Yin explained that Tang San's poison-focused Blue Silver Grass cultivation was damaging his martial soul, Tang Hao regretted failing to supervise his awakening and education. He helped his son obtain a restorative fourth ring and later joined Tang Xiao in confronting Yu Xiaogang over his teaching 185 190 193 244.

Final defense of the Clear Sky Sect

In the City of Slaughter, Tang Hao rescued Tang San from Xiao Wu's controlled soul body and fought Qian Renchuan. A spiritual attack weakened his domain, while increased gravity made his hammer too heavy to wield effectively. He fled with his injured son and survived the pursuit 275 276.

Back at the sect, his permanent disability limited him to guiding disciples. When the Slaughter King attacked, Tang Xiao initially ordered him to preserve the Great Sumeru Hammer inheritance rather than die in battle 294 295.

After Tang Xiao's death, Tang Hao proposed using the Haotian Formation to restore his Titled Douluo cultivation. Knowing that the formation's strain and Ring Detonation backlash would destroy his body, he launched a final attack to protect the sect and awaken his grandfather. Tang San had already learned the Great Sumeru Hammer chant, allowing him to sacrifice himself without losing the inheritance 299 300.

Tang Chen blocked the attack without injury. Tang Hao had directed its force into the ground through the Pierce Word Art to reduce collateral damage, but Tang Chen's counterattack produced devastating shockwaves that killed the disciples on the ninth level and wiped out the Strength and Defense Clans 301.

Appearance

  • Build: Tall and powerfully muscular, with bronze-colored muscles compared to forged steel 33 40.
  • Clothing: Wears leather clothing bearing the Clear Sky Sect emblem during his travels 40.
  • After his breakthrough: Appears younger, with sharply defined features and a resolute expression 65.
  • Permanent injuries: Loses his right arm and left leg to Qian Xunji 74.
  • During his decline: Has disheveled hair, an untrimmed beard, filthy clothing, and a strong smell of alcohol 87.
  • Later presentation: Shaves, tidies his hair, and changes into clean clothes before approaching Ah Yin about Tang San 184.
  • In battle after disability: Uses killing intent to form substitute arms and legs beneath a loose robe 275.

Personality

Tang Hao's confidence initially rests on exceptional talent, inherited techniques, and the Clear Sky Sect's prestige. He is determined enough to endure the City of Slaughter and persist through overwhelming punishment, but his pride makes public humiliation particularly damaging 14 15 71.

His love for Ah Yin becomes possessive resentment after her marriage. He treats her choice as an injury to his dignity and seeks to prove that she should have chosen him. Jealousy eventually overrides his judgment, leading to the Nine-Ring Detonation that harms bystanders and his own family 65 68 73 74.

After his defeat, shame and helplessness give way to apathy. His renewed concern for Tang San begins only after learning of his son's exceptional potential—a reversal that even Tang Xiao regards with disgust. Nevertheless, he admits his neglect and repeatedly risks himself to protect Tang San 118 133 275 276.

His final decision places the sect's survival above his own life. With the Great Sumeru Hammer inheritance secured, he accepts a fatal backlash rather than abandon the remaining disciples 300.

Abilities & Skills

Clear Sky Hammer

A heavy tool martial soul that supplies the core of Tang Hao's offensive strength 33 70.

  • Expands from a vat-sized hammer into a mountain-sized weapon through Haotian Avatar 72.
  • Works with precise bodily force generation and the sect's specialized hammer techniques 33 70.
  • Losing control of it leaves Tang Hao unable to display even a tenth of his strength during his duel with Qian Xunji 70.
  • Its immense weight becomes a liability against Qian Renchuan's tenfold-gravity suppression 276.

Great Sumeru Hammer and Ring Detonation

Tang Chen's inherited secret technique condenses soul rings into the martial soul, greatly amplifying the hammer's power 15 33.

  • Allows a Soul Emperor's hammer to rival the aura of Tang Xiao's Soul Douluo-level weapon 33.
  • Ring Detonation serves as its ultimate secret; Tang Hao defeats the sect's strongest fighters at Rank 92 without needing it 68.
  • Nine-Ring Detonation produces catastrophic destructive power but inflicts severe backlash 73 74.
  • Its final use, combined with borrowed Soul Power, costs Tang Hao his life 300.

Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer and Haotian Nine Wonders

Tang Hao masters the sect's specialized force techniques, surpassing Tang Xiao after his City of Slaughter training 33.

  • Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer: Chains strikes to accumulate power; its ultimate sequence comprises eighty-one strikes 72.
  • Break Word Art: Combines with Tang Xiao's hammer strike to double their shockwave during the confrontation over Ah Yin 41.
  • Pierce Word Art: Concentrates hammer force into a drilling attack, used to direct his final strike into the ground 301.

Divine Slaughter's Domain

A killing-intent domain earned by surviving the City of Slaughter 22 32.

  • Spreads over a hundred-meter area and turns his hammer crimson 41.
  • Raises Tang Xiao's combat power by ten percent when they fight together 41.
  • Evolves into Asura Hell during his duel with Qian Xunji 72.
  • Allows his remaining rings to function despite the City of Slaughter's suppression and supports killing-intent limbs 275.
  • Can be overwhelmed by Angel Domain or weakened through damage to his Spiritual Power 70 276.

Residual Titled Douluo Capabilities

His cultivation drops to Rank 73, but his Spiritual Power remains at Titled Douluo level 133.

  • Detects Xiao Wu's transformed soul-beast identity at Shrek Academy 135.
  • Retains seven usable rings: two purple, four black, and one red 275 295.
  • Claims that Titled Douluo below Rank 95 would gain no advantage against him; this is his own assessment, not a demonstrated victory record 133.
  • Qian Renchuan's Purple Demon Eyes injure his Spiritual Power and disrupt his domain 275 276.

Haotian Formation

Tang Hao uses the sect's defensive formation to temporarily recover Titled Douluo cultivation 299 300.

  • Receives Soul Power from dozens of Clear Sky Hammer users 299.
  • Cannot move outside the formation's fixed range 299.
  • Cannot use ordinary soul skills while absorbing its power; must rely on the sect's secret techniques 299.
  • His four remaining soul bones let his body withstand the initial infusion, but not the additional backlash of his final attack 300.

Cultivation Instruction

Tang Hao trains both the Shrek Seven Devils and Clear Sky Sect disciples 166 294.

  • Uses harsh training, including waterfall training for Tang San, to improve physical endurance and extract potential 180 193.
  • Supplies Clear Sky Sect cultivation resources and medicinal baths to support recovery 166.
  • Moderates Oscar's training because of his Innate Full Soul Power and potential value to the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect 166.
  • His methods leave the extent of several students' hidden injuries uncertain 180.

  • Titan — Strength Clan patriarch who recognizes Tang Hao as his master 14.

Later Alternate Portrayal

Later chapters depict a different sequence of Tang Hao's life from the main history above:

  • Tang Chen intends for a young Bibi Dong to become Tang Hao's future wife; she privately rejects his praise of Tang Hao based on his earlier humiliation 354.
  • Tang Hao leaves the City of Slaughter at twenty-eight, refines his killing intent at Moonlight Pavilion for two years, and reaches Rank 70 Soul Sage 357.
  • He travels with Tang Xiao and Bibi Dong, then forms a four-person sworn-sibling group with Ah Yin. Qian Xunji strikes all three other travelers and takes Ah Yin away 357.
  • In a later battle, Tang Hao cuts through Star Dou Alliance soldiers while advancing toward Qian Xunji at the rear 368.
