Overview

A Martial Soul is the spiritual power manifested by a Soul Master. Its nature influences the user's physical development, combat style, compatible Soul Beasts, and potential Soul Skills. Even a comparatively ordinary Martial Soul improves its owner's physique beyond that of an ordinary person. 81

Martial Souls vary widely in form and function, including beast, plant, weapon, body, spirit, space, and external types. Awakening

Martial Souls are awakened through a ceremony in which a Soul Master channels soul power into a magic circle. The awakening reveals the individual's Martial Soul and allows their Innate Soul Power to be tested through a crystal ball. 1

• Martial Soul awakening may be required for social advancement; soldiers can apply to awaken one through military merit. 81
• A person must awaken a Martial Soul before advancing to certain low-ranking officer positions, as the demands of command may exceed an ordinary person's physical and psychological endurance. 81

Soul Rings and Soul Skills

Soul Rings are central to a Martial Soul's growth. Their absorption provides soul power, a portion of a Soul Beast's spiritual origin, the laws of the world, and a Soul Skill suited to the Martial Soul. 169

Repeated Soul Ring and Soul Bone absorption can gradually imbue a Martial Soul with foreign attributes. These accumulated traits may be inherited across generations and contribute to mutation in descendants. 156

Small World

Lu Ran's Small World is classified publicly as a space-type Martial Soul, though its internal world, Soul Beast contracts, elemental growth, and summoning functions make it anomalous even among space-type Martial Souls. 1 156

Contract System

Each Soul Ring allows the Small World to contract one Soul Beast. Contracted beasts can continue cultivating, heal and grow within the internal space, and grant Lu Ran abilities based on their attributes. 1 6

• Contracting the Rock Crystal Dragon expanded the Small World and raised Lu Ran's soul power to level 12. 6
