Shrek Academy, Sea God Pavilion of the Inner Court.
Lin Yun stood in the corner, twisting the hem of his shirt with both hands, head bowed, while a stampede of ten thousand alpacas galloped through his mind.
Did they really have to hunt me down like this? he thought. I just pulled two all-nighters over the New Year, and after one blink, I'm suddenly in this damn world?
Transmigration was one thing, and having no system was another, but being dumped into the Peerless Tang Sect, stuck in some godforsaken backwater, and having to save up until age eleven just to afford a Martial Soul awakening—Lin Yun had accepted all of that.
But just as he'd finally saved enough money, a group of Evil Soul Masters slaughtered his village, and the Shrek Inspectorate arrived to purge them.
They'd dragged him back with them.
Good news: he didn't have to pay for his awakening, and he had Innate Full Soul Power.
Bad news: his Martial Soul was the Skeletal Bone Dragon, one of the Eight Great Undead Monarchs from Full-Time Magister, which was classified as an Evil Martial Soul on the Douluo Continent.
As everyone knew, you could criticize Shrek for anything, but when it came to cracking down on dark and evil Martial Souls, they were the ultimate authority.
Facing this start, Lin Yun could only curse under his breath, keeping his head down and his mouth shut in front of this crowd.
He had no cheats other than his Martial Soul, so in front of this star-studded Shrek lineup, it was best to just stand still and behave.
The people in the Sea God Pavilion didn't notice Lin Yun's turbulent thoughts, as they were busy debating his situation.
Mu En's gaze rested on Lin Yun for a moment before he finally spoke.
"Although this child's Martial Soul carries a dense aura of evil, he has yet to commit any atrocities. To kill him now would truly be an injustice. Years ago, my friends and I discussed the influence of Martial Souls on the human heart; perhaps through him, we can catch a glimpse of the truth."
With that, Mu En delivered the final verdict, arranging for Lin Yun to study in the Outer Court alongside the new batch of students.
As for the matter of his soul ring, Yan Shaozhe would take him to hunt for one.
Lin Yun let out a sigh of relief. Studying in the Outer Court was fine; given his current background and this point in time, the risks of wandering around alone were too high. Tagging along with Shrek to develop might actually be an opportunity.
At the very least, it would provide a relatively stable period for growth.
Yan Shaozhe's gaze scrutinized Lin Yun. The boy lowered his eyes, unsure of what to say, until he finally asked, "Then, what are the arrangements for this teacher?"
Yan Shaozhe took a deep breath, raised a hand, and enveloped them both in soul power before taking flight at high speed.
Lin Yun watched the shimmering phoenix wings flapping behind Yan Shaozhe, then released his own Martial Soul.
The massive, grey bone wings of the Skeletal Bone Dragon erupted from Lin Yun's back, and he mimicked Yan Shaozhe's movements.
As he adjusted his soul power, Lin Yun began to fly as well. Yan Shaozhe glanced at him, silently praising the boy's incredible talent.
While flight-type Martial Souls didn't require soul skills to fly, someone who had just awakened their soul usually needed time to master the technique.
Lin Yun was the fastest learner Yan Shaozhe had ever seen.
However, this also made Yan Shaozhe wary. It meant Lin Yun was highly compatible with his Martial Soul, which meant his character would require even stricter assessment.
Lin Yun didn't have as many complex thoughts as Yan Shaozhe. As a man from Blue Star, his entire focus was on the act of flying.
In two lifetimes, this was the first time Lin Yun had soared into the high skies under his own power.
That excitement didn't fade until they reached the edge of the Star Dou Forest and Yan Shaozhe ordered him to descend.
Though Yan Shaozhe didn't act particularly close to Lin Yun, he had helped him out during the flight.
The two walked through the outer perimeter of the Star Dou Forest. Yan Shaozhe suppressed his aura to avoid attracting the attention of powerful soul beasts, leading Lin Yun through the brush in search of a suitable target.
Lin Yun followed silently behind Yan Shaozhe, answering only when necessary.
"What are the specific attributes of your Martial Soul? Describe your sensations in detail."
After walking for a while, Yan Shaozhe asked abruptly.
"It belongs to the power of the undead—death and rebirth—with a touch of the monarch's dominance over all directions," Lin Yun replied.
Yan Shaozhe let out a soft hum, then said after a long pause, "The power of the undead... isn't that just the method of an Evil Soul Master?"
Lin Yun kept his head down, debating for a moment whether to voice his thought—But I feel like this power is quite sacred—before deciding against it.
They already suspected him of being an Evil Soul Master; arguing with them now would just be asking for trouble.
Yan Shaozhe led Lin Yun around. Despite his unpleasant tone, his eyes were carefully scanning the surrounding soul beasts.
At the end of the day, Mu En had accepted Lin Yun into Shrek Academy, making him Yan Shaozhe's student. Yan Shaozhe couldn't afford to be careless with a student who possessed Innate Full Soul Power.
After searching for a long time, Yan Shaozhe looked back and saw that Lin Yun's expression remained natural and he was still keeping pace, causing him to nod inwardly.
As Lin Yun watched the scenery shift, Yan Shaozhe suddenly spun around and grabbed him, leaping into the air.
A giant spider with blue-grey fur and a body length exceeding five meters burst from the ground.
A hint of joy appeared in Yan Shaozhe's eyes as he said, "It seems our luck is good; we actually ran into this thing."
Lin Yun's mild arachnophobia flared up, his legs turning to jelly as he gripped the tree trunk and asked, "What is that thing?"
Yan Shaozhe glanced at Lin Yun, let out a soft chuckle, and then spoke.
"The Ghost Spider Emperor, an incredibly powerful soul beast that comes with two lives; it is said that even at a hundred years old, it can prey upon thousand-year soul beasts."
As he spoke, Yan Shaozhe leaped down from the tree, struck the spider's head with a punch, and immediately tapped the creature's skull with two fingers as it tried to rise again.
"Come down and finish it off."
Yan Shaozhe beckoned to Lin Yun, who straightened his expression and replied.
"Wait for me to mentally prepare myself for a moment."
After hesitating for a short while, Lin Yun activated his martial soul and stomped down hard.
Accompanied by the spray of foul-smelling fluid, an earthy-yellow soul ring emerged.
Lin Yun sat cross-legged and reached out to guide the soul ring toward himself.
The entire fusion process was not painful, and Lin Yun completed the absorption in about two hours.
Yan Shaozhe was shocked by this absorption speed, and just as he was about to say something, a violent tremor exploded right beside them.
Before Lin Yun could even sense his new soul skill, he was swept up by Yan Shaozhe and carried away.
On the other side, the Sky Dream Ice Silkworm was trading blows with the 'Little Black Ball' that was attempting to snatch the youth before them.
The sound from just a moment ago was the commotion caused by their struggle...
