"Younger schoolmate, are you sure an ice-type Soul Beast will be of any use to you?"
Zhang Lexuan asked Lin Yun again in the luxurious Pegasus carriage.
Lin Yun nodded, then said,
"I can feel it. Think about it, senior schoolmate: ice is a cold, yin element, and the undead are also cold, yin beings. So the two complement each other and are connected."
Zhang Lexuan nodded and looked out the window.
"I've never heard of that, but it does seem to make some sense."
Lin Yun smiled, then said,
"The Extreme North is dangerous, so once we reach a nearby town, we'll rent an inn room. I want to set up a Soul Tool teleportation array, something I read about in a book."
"Have Soul Tools really developed to such an astonishing degree?"
Although Zhang Lexuan was the senior disciple of the Inner Court, Shrek Academy was notorious for looking down on Soul Tools. As one of its outstanding disciples, she had never encountered anything beyond Storage Soul Tools.
Lin Yun smiled and launched into his grand deception routine. He took out a Storage Soul Tool and explained,
"Of course. You should learn more about them in your spare time, senior schoolmate. Look at this Storage Soul Tool. It may be small, but it contains spatial compression and folding technology."
"If even a low-grade Soul Tool can fold and compress space, then those high-grade Soul Tools can surely manage things like spatial leaps with ease. That'd be child's play."
Zhang Lexuan nodded and said to Lin Yun,
"Looks like I really should learn more about Soul Tools."
Lin Yun smiled.
"That's right. People have to keep up with the times, don't they? Science and technology are the primary productive forces."
"As time goes on, the gap will become more and more obvious. Of course, Soul Masters will also find new paths of their own."
Lin Yun told Zhang Lexuan about some of the ideas concerning Soul Masters and Battle Armor Masters from the original Douluo III. He left her thoroughly bewildered.
Whenever the carriage got tiring on the way, Lin Yun switched to a different one. They pressed on at a steady pace, traveling almost twice as fast as Huo Yuhao.
Lin Yun quickly found an inn in a village near the edge of the Extreme North. He rented a room and set up the array, then told the innkeeper not to enter and not to let anyone else stay there. He even tipped him an extra room's worth of money.
The innkeeper was overjoyed. He solemnly agreed to Lin Yun's request, locked the room on the spot, and handed Lin Yun the key to keep.
Meanwhile, Zhang Lexuan had bought clothes for their trip into the Extreme North.
They were thick coats made from Flame Lion hide, imbued with a faint fire-element Soul Power that continuously provided warmth.
Lin Yun and Zhang Lexuan made their way through the Extreme North. Without advanced Simulation or concealment techniques, they could only cross the Titan Snow Demon Clan's territory while its members were asleep.
Fortunately, nothing went wrong.
By the time they reached the Ice Jade Scorpion Clan's habitat, they were already near the center of the Extreme North.
Lin Yun suddenly released the soul imprint of his Skeletal Bone Dragon Martial Soul.
The massive dragon soul imprint, combined with its aura of the undead, instantly alerted the Ice Jade Empress Scorpion.
It all happened within a few breaths. By the time Zhang Lexuan reacted, the Ice Empress was already right in front of them.
"Human?"
The Ice Empress's voice came from within the giant scorpion, but she didn't rush to kill him. In truth, the powerful Soul Beasts of the Extreme North weren't very bloodthirsty.
For example, when the Ice Empress met that female dragon-cannon-fodder character in the original story, she couldn't even be bothered to attack. Now, as the Ice Empress looked at Lin Yun, her tone carried a warning.
But Lin Yun remained unhurried. He asked the Ice Empress a soul-searching question, one that was sure to shock her:
"Ice Empress, do you want to be made into the Sky Dream Ice Silkworm's wife and ground into the dirt?"
The Ice Empress flew into a rage. Her voice turned even colder as she spoke to Lin Yun, and her extreme fury was enough to make Zhang Lexuan faint on the spot...
