Time flew by.
Soon, it was the morning of March 4, 740.
After using Instant Transmission to send Broly away temporarily, Saigo summoned the candidates to become Super Saiyans.
In the Saiyan Royal Palace hall, Tarble, Vegeta III, Paragus, and Fasha stood in a neat line before the steps leading up to the throne.
"You should know why I called the four of you here, right?" Saigo asked deliberately from his throne.
"Teacher, your disciple has a general idea. But if you use your special technique four times in a row, will you be all right?" Tarble asked with concern.
Before Saigo could answer, the other three had already turned pale. If Saigo suffered a serious setback just to help them become Super Saiyans, they would be terrible sinners.
"Tarble, what do you mean? Does King Saigo's special technique—the one that can increase someone's battle power—have side effects?" Vegeta III turned to Tarble for confirmation.
Paragus and Fasha both looked at him questioningly.
Tarble glanced at Saigo on the throne. Seeing that he wasn't stopping him, Tarble explained, "The last time Teacher increased Uncle Bardock's battle power, he looked exhausted afterward. Father, Uncle Paragus, Aunt Fasha, do you think Teacher could use that special technique on all four of us in a row and be completely fine?"
As he spoke, he knelt on one knee before Saigo. "Teacher, please take care of your health. We Saiyans can't do without you to lead us!"
Now the other three understood what was going on.
Thump! x3
Without the slightest hesitation, all three knelt as well.
"King Saigo, please take care of your health!" x3
"Your subordinate is willing to postpone having his battle power increased!" x2
"Your subordinate is willing to give up this chance to have his battle power increased!"
More than becoming Super Saiyans themselves, they sincerely hoped Saigo would enjoy good health and a long life. That way, the Saiyans could become even stronger and more glorious.
In the past, they would have chosen to become Super Saiyans without hesitation, rather than concern themselves with anyone else—even another Saiyan.
But now, the Saiyans had received an education far ahead of its time, and their outlook had changed greatly.
The Saiyans of old revered and respected the strong, but had virtually no sense of community or family.
Now, the Saiyans still admired the strong, but they also had a sense of community and family. In particular, they put the collective honor of the Saiyans first, admiration for the strong second, and family third.
What had brought about this change? Of course, it was all thanks to Saigo's iron-fisted methods. He had personally killed several troublemakers who, relying on their strength, tried to destroy other people's families or bullied—or even killed—non-Saiyan Saiyan Legion soldiers for no reason.
Saigo hadn't coddled them over it. He'd made an example of them, convinced that only a lesson written in blood would make them remember, change their ways, and learn from their mistakes.
On top of that, Saigo had come up with a stroke of genius: he incorporated every Saiyan into the Saigao Legion. This not only made them all loyal to him and ensured they would never betray him, but also made them go all out to complete any task he gave them.
That was how the Saiyans had become what they were now.
Seeing this from his throne, Saigo felt deeply gratified. All that painstaking effort I put into teaching you hadn't been for nothing!
But he wore an expression that brooked no argument. "There's no need to worry! I've improved that secret technique this time. I can just about guide the potential of four people in a row. The price, however, is that it now consumes lifespan, not just stamina and mental energy!"
The four kneeling at the foot of the steps were stunned.
"Teacher, you..."
"King Saigo, you..." x3
They wanted to say more, but Saigo raised his hand to cut them off. "There's no need to say anything else! I've made up my mind, and nobody can change it. You should decide who's going first!"
Looking at Saigo's resolute expression, the four knew they couldn't change his mind. They exchanged glances, then dropped to both knees and cried out in unison, "Your subordinates (disciples) thank King Saigo (Teacher) for his great kindness!"
Then they bowed their heads to the floor, producing a single, crisp thud.
Afterward, they all stood up of their own accord. They knew Saigo disliked this kind of kneeling, and worried that if they stayed down too long, he'd end up lecturing them.
"King Saigo, your subordinate is willing to go last," Vegeta III said as soon as he rose to his feet.
He felt that since King Saigo had generously allowed both him and his son to take part in this potential guidance, it would be too much for him to try to go first as well.
Even though going last might greatly reduce the effect of having his battle power increased, he had no regrets.
Seeing this, the other three also rushed to say they were willing to go last. They clearly understood what the last person might have to face, yet they were still willing to do it.
"Teacher, your disciple is willing to go last!"
"King Saigo, your subordinate is willing to go last as well!" x2
Honestly!
Sometimes, being too selfless could backfire!
Saigo was at a loss. Had he just shot himself in the foot?
He immediately tried to provoke them. "What? Are you all cowards? None of you dares to go first?"
Before he'd even finished speaking,
cries rang throughout the entire palace hall.
"Reporting! Your disciple dares to go first!"
"Reporting! Your subordinate dares to go first!" x3
Only then did Saigo nod in satisfaction. "Fasha, you go first! It's about time we had a female Super Saiyan!"
"Yes!" Fasha thrust out her ample chest and answered in her wild, ringing voice.
Then she hurried up the steps and stopped in front of Saigo.
"Come a little closer! Crouch down. Remember, don't resist or panic."
"Yes! Understood!" Fasha did as instructed, taking two steps forward before crouching.
As Saigo placed his hand on her head, he couldn't help admiring the beautiful view. What a sin! What a sin!
It's not like I meant to look. It was practically right in my face, and my eyes didn't move away in time! I only got a couple of glances!
Then he took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and began to guide her potential.
Secret Technique—Potential Guidance activated!
One second!
Two seconds!
Three seconds!
Boom!
An aura far beyond Fasha's original battle power erupted from her, unleashing wave after wave of fierce, raging energy that swept in every direction.
The three men at the foot of the steps were so close that they had no choice but to summon their own auras to withstand the blast and keep their footing.
Two more breaths later, Saigo finally finished guiding her potential.
He opened his eyes, lifted his hand, and said, "That's enough! Rein in your aura for now. Once I've guided the potential of the other three, I'll teach all of you how to transform into Super Saiyans!"
Fasha sensed the tremendous surge of energy within her, both astonished and delighted. This power!
It was simply too strong!
It was many times greater than before!
Fasha gathered her thoughts, then excitedly let go of the tail wrapped around her waist and extended it toward him, holding it out in front of Saigo. Her face flushed as she thanked him. "Your subordinate thanks King Saigo for his generosity!"
Saigo looked at the thick brown tail in front of him, puzzled. "You can thank me without doing that. Why are you holding out your tail?"
His question only made Fasha's face turn even redder, as bright as a rosy sunset. Usually so bold and easygoing, she now seemed shy and awkward.
Seeing her like this, Saigo's heart gave a jolt.
No way.
It couldn't be what I think it is, could it?
