The green-skinned, garlic-headed fellow was named Arem, and he was incredibly enthusiastic, regaling Son Gohan and Trunks with many stories and interesting facts about the history of Yardrat.
Looking at the dense crowd of people nearby, Trunks asked curiously, "Arem, is the population of Yardrat very large?"
"Ah?"
"No, no."
"Sorry, sorry, actually, there is only one person here," Arem said, scratching his head in embarrassment.
As soon as his words fell, the dense crowd of Yardratians nearby all vanished into thin air.
Only he remained, standing there blankly with a naive, bewildered expression on his face.
"Ah? What is going on? Why did they all suddenly disappear?" Trunks was startled.
Son Gohan also furrowed his brows, watching Arem quietly.
Arem explained, "We Yardratians have very weak power and a small population. Usually, to build up our presence and avoid being looked down upon by others, we increase our numbers ourselves..."
"Uh..." Trunks was dumbfounded; what was he supposed to make of that?
Son Gohan said, "In other words, all the people we saw just now were your clones? I could actually sense ki from every single one of them; they looked exactly like real people. This is too absurd."
"Hehe, yes, I call it the Proliferation Technique," Arem said.
"What an amazing ability," Trunks' eyes sparkled; he had never seen such an interesting technique before.
If this technique were applied in combat, it would have miraculous effects.
It could easily achieve the goal of passing off the fake as real, and even experts proficient in sensing ki would find it difficult to distinguish the truth if they were caught off guard.
Son Gohan said, "Arem, Trunks and I came here specifically to learn these techniques. Could you help introduce us to your Grand Elder?"
"Hehe, of course, follow me," Arem laughed, leading Son Gohan and Trunks toward a staircase.
After walking for a while.
Arem brought the two brothers to a bright, spacious house.
"Go on in, the Grand Elder is inside," Arem said, pulling open the door.
The three of them entered.
There were not many Yardratians inside the house.
Arem pointed to a Yardratian with a massive physique and said, "Let me introduce you; this is our Grand Elder of Yardrat, Lord Pybara."
"Son Goku's Instant Transmission was actually taught by Elder Pybara, you know."
The massive Elder Pybara stood with two guards, though it was unclear if they were real people or just more of the Elder's clones.
The blue-skinned Elder Pybara looked at Son Gohan and Trunks and said, "Yes, I am the one who taught Son Goku the Instant Transmission. Welcome to Yardrat."
Son Gohan studied this Elder Pybara, immediately reminded of the former Grand Elder of Namek.
Both were Grand Elders, and both possessed massive frames.
However, the Grand Elder of Namek back then had been in his twilight years.
In contrast, Elder Pybara's skin was taut, and he looked round and plump like a blue slime, making it impossible to determine his age.
But he was likely quite old.
Son Gohan responded with a smile, "Greetings, Elder Pybara. My brother and I have come all the way from Earth specifically to learn the technique of Instant Transmission from you."
Pybara looked at Son Gohan for a few moments before speaking, "You must be Son Goku's son; you look quite similar."
Son Gohan nodded, "Yes, Son Goku is indeed my father."
Elder Pybara laughed, "As for the Instant Transmission technique, it is actually just one way of using Spirit."
"As long as you learn to control Spirit, you will naturally be able to grasp various miraculous abilities."
"And what exactly is Spirit?" Trunks asked.
"Spirit? In the terminology of your Earth, it is something you call ki."
"Ki..." Hearing Grand Elder Pybara's words, a strong sense of familiarity washed over Son Gohan.
Wasn't this exactly what he had said when he taught Videl the Flight Technique?
So, in the final analysis, it was all about learning how to control ki, and then using that ki to generate all sorts of wonderful abilities.
"Yes, it is ki."
"For example... Instant Transmission," Elder Pybara said, and with a whoosh, his body teleported to the other side.
"Proliferation Technique..." Figures flickered, and a whole row of identical Elder Pybaras appeared in the room.
"Gigantification..." Elder Pybara's body suddenly shrank, transforming from a giant into someone just over a meter tall in the blink of an eye.
"This is too cool," Trunks said excitedly.
Son Gohan couldn't help but click his tongue in secret; the methods of the Yardratians were truly extraordinary.
Elder Pybara continued, "These abilities are actually quite simple. They can be achieved by using Spirit to move, divide, or expand."
"Any one of us Yardratians can do this, so as long as you understand the structure of Spirit, you will be able to learn the skills you desire."
"Mhm, it is what we call the structure of ki," Elder Pybara added.
Son Gohan had to admit that the Yardratians' understanding and application of ki had reached an incredible level.
For the longest time, they Saiyans or Earthlings had only ever used ki to fly or to fire energy blasts at their opponents.
Yet, very few people had ever managed to develop such miraculous abilities.
Mutaito, who had dedicated his entire life to the study of martial arts, had once used ki to develop a technique called the Evil Containment Wave.
That, too, was a miraculous move that allowed the weak to overcome the strong.
It was just far too rare, however.
It was nothing like the Yardratians, who possessed such a vast array of methods for utilizing ki.
Son Gohan patted Trunks on the shoulder, and together they bowed to Elder Pybara, saying, "Please, Grand Elder Pybara, teach us how to cultivate."
"Mhm, very well. But as the saying goes, a master leads you to the door, but your cultivation depends on the individual. How much you learn will depend entirely on your own comprehension," Grand Elder Pybara said.
"Yes." Son Gohan and Trunks nodded heavily, then exchanged a smile.
In the days that followed.
Son Gohan and Trunks began a long life of arduous training.
The Yardratians arranged a house for the two brothers to live in.
Every morning, they would go to see Elder Pybara to ask for guidance regarding the knowledge of ki structure.
Whenever they had questions they did not understand, they would bring them up immediately, and Grand Elder Pybara would explain them in detail.
Just like that, a month slipped away quietly.
Son Gohan and Trunks began to grasp the fundamentals of ki structure.
The second month.
They delved deeper into their studies and consolidated their knowledge.
The third month.
It was finally in the third month that Son Gohan successfully performed Instant Transmission, though he was still quite clumsy at it.
By the fourth month, Trunks finally grasped the knack and performed Instant Transmission for the first time.
By the fifth month, Son Gohan's Instant Transmission had become proficient, and he began to learn another ability of ki: separation!
Forced Spirit Fission.
This was an ability that could forcibly strip away energy that had been fused or absorbed.
At certain times, this ability could have unexpected and miraculous effects.
The sixth month.
Trunks began to learn the splitting of the spirit.
This splitting was the Proliferation Technique, which could create many clones.
And in the seventh month, North King Kai brought some not-so-good news.
