Background / History

Awakening and visit to Earth

Beerus awakens on the Planet of the God of Destruction after a long sleep, disturbed by a nightmare involving his own death. Upon learning from Whis that Son Goku, a Super Saiyan, killed Frieza, he travels to Earth to investigate the surviving Saiyans. Beerus had originally intended to let Frieza destroy Planet Vegeta before killing Frieza himself. 83 84

At Kami's Lookout, Beerus dismisses Goku's transformations and knocks him unconscious with a flick to the forehead. Goku later challenges him again as a Super Saiyan God, but Beerus effortlessly blocks his opening punch with one finger and continues to dominate the fight. 84 87 88

Beerus then battles Son Gohan's Super Saiyan 4 form. Gohan's stamina, durability, Saiyan bloodline cultivation, and traces of Hakai Energy intrigue Beerus, who recognizes that Gohan is pursuing a path different from Super Saiyan God's Godly Ki. 89

Training Universe 7

After returning to Earth for its food, Beerus agrees to allow Goku, Vegeta, Trunks, Piccolo, and Gohan to train on his planet under Whis's guidance. He explains that Whis is not merely his attendant, but also his teacher. 94 95

Son Gohan pressures Beerus to take his destruction duties seriously by raising the possibility of Grand Zeno punishing Universe 7 for its poor overall level. Beerus subsequently begins patrolling and destroying dead or harmful planets more diligently. 119 121

Gods of Destruction battle royale and Tournament of Power

Beerus becomes a target during the Gods of Destruction battle royale because the other gods resent him for abandoning Grand Zeno's previous hide-and-seek tournament to sleep for fifty years. He initially uses Ultra Instinct to evade the group, but his aggressive temperament prevents him from maintaining it effectively. 127

Despite being heavily injured in his final fight with Quitela, Beerus remains standing and is declared the battle royale's victor. 128

During the Tournament of Power, Beerus serves as Universe 7's God of Destruction and reacts strongly to the overwhelming performance of his universe's fighters, particularly Gohan. 136 137

Gohan's apprenticeship

After Universe 7 wins the Tournament of Power, Beerus offers Gohan an earring-like mark that grants access to the authority of “Destruction.” He asks Gohan to become an Intern God of Destruction and formally accepts him as his apprentice. 148 149

Beerus tests Gohan's Hakai by having him erase a distant star, then reveals the distinctive combat method used by Gods of Destruction. His combat state overwhelms Gohan at first, but their fight drives Gohan to awaken Ultra Ego in combination with his Beast form. 149 150

Over the following year, Gohan destroys 10,802 dead stars as an intern, greatly improving Universe 7's condition and strengthening its Power of Destruction. Gohan's work ethic leaves Beerus overwhelmed and forces him into a far more diligent routine. 152

Later conflicts

Beerus accompanies Gohan and Cooler into the Dark Demon Realm, where he battles the Fallen God of Destruction Tores. Tores initially outmatches him and later inflicts near-fatal injuries, but Gohan heals Beerus and keeps him in the battle. 247 248 250

After Gohan becomes the Divine Realm Law Enforcer, Beerus realizes that his former apprentice now holds authority over him. He reluctantly accepts Gohan's supervision and renewed demands that he fulfill his duties. 257 258 261

Beerus later discovers that his divine power circulation has become impaired, reducing his strength and slowing his thoughts. Gohan concludes that Beerus may be affected by the same unknown infection troubling several higher gods. 364 365

In a separate time-space, Gohan discovers Beerus's preserved but lifeless body on the Planet of the God of Destruction. Black mist parasitizes the corpse, consumes the remnants of his essence, and prevents the body from decaying. 372

Beerus eventually intervenes against Moro after allowing the younger fighters time to struggle and grow. He overwhelms Moro with a Destruction energy sphere and later defeats him despite Moro wielding Angel Power. 436 437 442
