On his way to find the monster, Reke had no idea that a life-or-death crisis was unfolding on his homeworld, Planet Vegeta.
Not long after he arrived on Udrapa Planet, his spaceship received a recall order from Planet Vegeta.
He had to admit he was lucky. He destroyed his Scouter the day after he arrived; otherwise, Frieza would surely have detected that he was still alive.
Then a pursuit squad would have come looking for him. But he had destroyed the thing, making Frieza's side believe he was already dead and allowing him to escape disaster.
Of course, he didn't know any of this yet. He was still anxiously dreading Frieza's pursuit.
Kakarot had also been born by then, and before Reke went looking for the monster, his father, Bardock, had sent him to Earth.
The area around Planet Vegeta had already been sealed off by Frieza's forces. Any spaceship that tried to leave would be shot down.
Kakarot's spaceship had left just before they sealed off the area, unwittingly planting the seeds of Frieza's own destruction.
Back on Planet Vegeta, inside the Saiyan royal palace, King Vegeta had gathered all the Elite Warriors.
He had also received word that Frieza had sealed off the star region and was on his way.
"Your Majesty, Frieza's leaving us no way out. Let's rebel! I'll lead the charge." A Saiyan with a pineapple-shaped hairstyle looked up at King Vegeta on his throne.
"Exactly, Your Majesty! Let's rebel!"
"Your Majesty, we should strike first."
"Your Majesty, while they're still off guard, we can sneak aboard their spaceship and launch a surprise attack."
As soon as Bald Man finished speaking, the others joined in.
King Vegeta looked down at the dozen or so Elite Warriors. They were all he had.
There were several thousand Saiyans, but only a dozen or so Elite Warriors among them, each with a battle power of over 6,000.
And after transforming into Giant Apes, their battle power would multiply tenfold, reaching over 60,000 each.
As far as he knew, there was no one around Frieza who could stop them. They could slaughter everyone in their path. As long as he killed Frieza, no one would ever hold the Saiyans down again.
His subordinates' fervor roused King Vegeta as well. He had already been inclined to rebel, and now he didn't hesitate. Rising from his throne, he swept a hand through the air. "All right, we rebel! Naku, Cappa, you two are coming with me to the spaceship to assassinate Frieza."
"The rest of you, follow behind us and be ready to attack at any moment."
"Yes, Your Majesty!"
The warriors below thumped their chests with one hand and answered in unison.
King Vegeta flung his cape back and strode out first, with the others close behind.
"King Frieza, the leader of the Saiyan monkeys is coming to pay his respects. He may have ill intentions. Shall I deal with him?" Zarbon received the report and relayed it to Frieza.
"Ho ho ho ho ho! No need. Let those monkeys come. I want to see what sort of show they put on for me." Frieza swirled the red wine in his glass and laughed as if he'd heard a joke.
"Yes, sir!"
Zarbon and Dodoria, Frieza's trusted subordinates, both felt a chill. They knew their king had decided to kill.
Zarbon hurriedly answered, then passed the message along to his men.
Cold sweat beaded on Dodoria's forehead. He stood beside Frieza without daring to say a word.
When King Vegeta entered the cabin with two Elite Warriors, he saw Frieza still sitting in his baby chair and immediately signaled his subordinates.
He raised both hands toward Frieza and shouted:
"Frieza, die! Once you're dead, I'll rule the universe!
In an instant, countless energy blasts shot from King Vegeta's hands toward Frieza.
"Ho ho ho ho ho!" Frieza laughed in fury.
His eyes narrowed, and a powerful aura burst from him.
It instantly extinguished King Vegeta's energy blasts.
King Vegeta's two subordinates had just been about to attack, but Frieza's aura scared them into staying put.
King Vegeta froze for a moment. He hadn't expected Frieza to defend against his attack so easily, and a sense of dread rose in his heart.
But he still refused to give up. He fired an energy blast at the ceiling of the spaceship, blasting a hole through it before flying outside.
Frieza watched him without trying to stop him, then followed him out of the spaceship.
Outside, more than a dozen Saiyan monkeys were already waiting for King Vegeta to make his move.
"Frieza, don't get cocky! Our battle power multiplies tenfold when we transform. Let's see how you'll stop us!"
An orb of light rose from King Vegeta's hand, and the Saiyans fixed their eyes on it.
One by one, their bodies began to swell. In no time, more than a dozen brown Giant Apes, each a hundred meters tall, appeared.
At their head, King Vegeta opened his cavernous jaws and declared, "Frieza, my battle power is over 100,000 now. Die!"
Yellow energy gathered in King Vegeta's mouth. The other Elite Warriors followed suit, charging Kikoho in their mouths.
"Ho ho ho ho ho!"
After enjoying a little monkey show, Frieza said ominously, "This king's battle power is 530,000." As he spoke, he held up a finger and gestured.
The energy gathering in King Vegeta's mouth paused. Then he suddenly fired it at Frieza.
"Don't make me laugh! Die!"
King Vegeta himself didn't notice the slight tremble in his voice.
He knew his worst fears had come true, but there was no way out now. All he could do was keep attacking.
Frieza didn't even glance at King Vegeta's Kikoho. He completely ignored the energy blast right in front of him.
He raised a finger and fired Death Beams at the other Saiyan monkeys.
One red beam after another pierced the Giant Apes' hearts, leaving them unable to fire the Kikoho in their mouths. They lost consciousness instantly, their bodies slowly shrinking as they floated through space.
King Vegeta trembled with rage. He knew he had lost, and lost utterly. Unwilling to accept it, he raised his fist and charged at Frieza.
After taking care of the rabble, Frieza turned to King Vegeta. In an instant, he appeared in front of his chest, drove his right hand through King Vegeta's heart, then flung him aside like a piece of trash.
King Vegeta didn't last even a second. Frieza killed him instantly.
After dealing with King Vegeta, Frieza looked toward the red Planet Vegeta in the distance.
He raised a finger, and a black energy blast gathered at its tip. In just a second, it grew into a colossal orb hundreds of meters across. He pointed it toward Planet Vegeta in the distance.
Just then, a warrior with a crab-shaped hairstyle and a scar on his left cheek flew out from Planet Vegeta.
He positioned himself in front of the Planet Destroyer Ball and gathered all his energy into his right hand.
He hurled it at the Planet Destroyer Ball and shouted, "Frieza, let this attack change everyone's fate! Die!"
The warrior's energy blast struck the Planet Destroyer Ball, but it didn't even make a ripple before being swallowed up.
The Planet Destroyer Ball continued toward Planet Vegeta, swallowing the warrior as well. But his actions caught Frieza's attention and left a deep impression on him.
"Boom! Kaboom!"
Frieza watched the planet disappear before his eyes. "Ho ho ho ho ho! Mr. Zarbon, Mr. Dodoria, look at the moment that planet explodes. It's truly beautiful."
