Background / History
Future Timeline
In the ruined future timeline, Gohan is one of Earth's last defenders. Even after becoming a Super Saiyan, he cannot overcome Android 18 and is forced to fight from a disadvantage. His Masenko briefly drives her back, but the gap in strength remains clear 57.
Reke's arrival changes Gohan's path. Reke recognizes his potential, calls himself Gohan's clansman and “uncle,” and brings him to the collapsed Kami's Lookout. There, Gohan enters the Hyperbolic Time Chamber for two months of intense training focused on raising his base strength rather than relying only on transformation 58 59.
After attaining Super Saiyan Full Power, Gohan resolves to stop living in fear and eliminate the Androids. He seeks Bulma's help to locate them, then defeats Androids 17 and 18 without mercy 59 60. He subsequently works with Bulma, Reke, and Trunks to gather Dragon Balls and travel to New Namek, where he makes wishes to restore Earth and resurrect those killed by the Androids 61 62.
When Dr. Gero's renewed threat emerges, Gohan leads the effort to locate him through the Dragon Balls. He battles Android 13, protects Piccolo from Super Android 13, and later takes over Goku's fight against Cell after arriving in time to save his father 64 65 74. Cell's attempts to provoke him instead awaken more of Gohan's hidden power 76 77.
After the crisis, Gohan returns to school in Orange Star City and meets Videl, continuing to balance scholarship with the duty to remain prepared for future threats 78.
Tournament of Power and Inter-Timeline Battles
During the Tournament of Power, Gohan defeats Lavenda, Bergamo, and Basil of Universe 9, but is troubled by the consequence of their universe's erasure 128. He later defeats Kefla and coordinates closely with Piccolo, using ki-sensing and teamwork to predict and counter opponents 143 150.
A separate counterpart, Super Gohan, awakens Beast Gohan after his potential is stimulated. In that form, he saves Super Piccolo, defeats Frieza, Android 17, Android 18, Cooler, and other contestants, and becomes the strongest fighter on the arena 142 143.
Dragon Ball GT Timeline
In the GT timeline, Gohan is Videl's husband and Pan's father. When Pan encounters the unknown Saiyan Reke, Gohan stays calm, assesses the threat through ki-sensing, and contacts Vegeta rather than acting impulsively 160.
He later agrees to join Goten, Trunks, and Pan in the search for the Dragon Balls despite having research obligations, recognizing that the unstable future requires his strength 165 172. After a mission involving Baby goes wrong, he blames himself for the danger faced by Goten and Trunks, though both reject his self-reproach 184.
Piccolo's death at One-Star Dragon's hands breaks Gohan's restraint. He transforms into Super Saiyan 3, defeats and cripples One-Star Dragon, then pursues Towa and Mira while carrying grief, rage, and a desire for revenge 204 205. Although Towa's time-space abilities initially suppress him, Gohan persists until Reke revives and allows him to continue dealing with One-Star Dragon 205 206.
After the Evil Dragon crisis, Gohan uses Shenron to restore Earth, revive the dead except for evil people, and erase the public's memories of events following the opening of the Gates of Hell 214.
Appearance
Gohan's appearance differs between his timeline counterparts and transformations.
- Beast Gohan / Super Gohan — Long silver-white hair standing upward, crimson pupils, and a violent beastlike aura 142.
- Black-robed counterpart — Wears a black robe and hood, bears a scar on his face, and is missing his left arm 218.
- Super Saiyan 3 counterpart — Releases a wild, mysterious aura powerful enough to form a barrier against Mira's black energy beam 204.
Personality
Gohan is defined by responsibility rather than a simple love of battle. In the future timeline, he initially considers becoming a scholar after defeating the Androids, but memories of lost allies and Earth's terror convince him that he cannot abandon training 59.
He is often calm and analytical under pressure. When Pan reports an unknown Saiyan, he reassures her, investigates with his senses, and seeks Vegeta's judgment instead of immediately attacking 160. In battle, he can be cold and decisive, particularly against Cell and the Androids 60 74.
His strongest emotional trigger is his bond with Piccolo. Piccolo's death drives him into a furious transformation and turns his focus toward revenge against One-Star Dragon, Towa, and Mira 204 205. Despite this intensity, his attachment to family remains central: he eagerly returns to Videl and Pan after long absences 186.
Abilities & Skills
Ki Sensing and Combat Analysis
Gohan can perceive distant energy signatures, gauge changes in an opponent's power, and use ki-sensing to direct combat decisions.
- Sensed Goku's weakening energy and reached Cell before the other fighters 74.
- Detected Reke's concealed presence and assessed that he was either ordinary or far beyond Gohan's senses 160.
- Identified Turles's externally enhanced power after observing the mixed nature of his aura 222.

- Kamehameha — Used against Cell, destroying everything below Cell's head and forcing his regeneration 76.

Beast Form
Gohan's Beast Form releases his hidden potential on a massive scale.
- Can neutralize powerful energy attacks through an aura barrier and repel them with an explosive release of ki 142 204.
- Gives him the speed to eliminate multiple opponents before they can react 142 143.
