Background / History

Frieza ruled the Saiyans through fear while privately regarding them as too proud to become truly loyal servants. Fearing the legends of the Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan God, he resolved to eradicate the Saiyans along with Planet Vegeta. He recalled Saiyans from across the universe, prohibited unauthorized departures, and planned to destroy the planet after gathering them together. 17 27 119

Although he initially intended to eliminate Planet Vegeta within a month, Frieza later set the destruction date for three days later so that the remaining returning Saiyans could be captured as well. He specifically intended to seize Reiz and Vegeta after the planet's destruction. 4 119

The Supreme Kai confronted Frieza aboard his flagship over Majin Buu's release and Frieza's history of planetary destruction. Frieza denied releasing Buu, but acknowledged that Beerus had assigned him planetary destruction work. After arrogantly dismissing the Supreme Kai, Frieza was badly injured even after transforming into his fourth form and disclosed that Beerus was likely in the God of Destruction Realm. 120 121

Appearance

In his usual first form, Frieza is small and slender, with white skin, purple chest and shoulder armor, triangular eyes, purple lips, and a long tail. He commonly travels in an infant-carrier-like hoverchair. 17 31

Personality

Frieza is intensely arrogant and status-conscious, habitually presenting himself as the “Universe Emperor” and treating weaker beings as beneath his notice. His fear of a potential Saiyan uprising is hidden beneath that superiority complex; rather than risk disloyalty, he chooses extermination. 17 119

He is also calculating when survival is at stake. After defeats by the Supreme Kai, Merus, and Toppo, Frieza sought Beerus and exaggerated his relationship with him by claiming to be Beerus's disciple. 122 200 203 204

Humiliation consistently provokes reckless retaliation. Once Merus removed his restraints, Frieza immediately attacked Merus, Jaco, and Tights from behind rather than accept the offered chance to stop committing evil. 171 173

Frieza gathered the Saiyans under the pretense of attacking a Super Star, intending instead to destroy Planet Vegeta and prevent the emergence of a Super Saiyan threat. 17 27 119

Conflict with the Supreme Kai

The Supreme Kai accused Frieza of releasing Majin Buu and punished him for his planetary crimes. Frieza's fourth form proved useless against the Kai's Divine Power, leaving him injured and desperate to find Beerus. 120 121 122

Galactic Patrol Incident

Ignoring Beerus's warning to avoid the Galactic Patrol, Frieza attacked Merus's ship. Merus later boarded Frieza's flagship, defeated his soldiers, knocked Frieza unconscious, and restrained him with Angel Power-enhanced handcuffs. 157 160 161 171

Pursuit by Toppo and Merus

After escaping his restraints, Frieza became stranded in space and encountered Toppo and Muse. His attack drew their attention, after which Merus and Toppo brutally defeated and interrogated him. Frieza led them toward Planet Cooler 1 in hopes that Cooler could save him. 193 195 196 200

Fall of the Frieza Family

Cooler could not protect Frieza and was killed during the conflict on Planet Cooler 1. Frieza then confronted Reiz, Vegeta, Broly, and Buu amid the planet's debris, but Broly easily overwhelmed him and reduced him with a Shrink Gun. 203 213 215

Reiz's group subsequently destroyed Planet King Cold 1, Planet Frieza 1, and dozens of other numbered Frieza family planets. Cooler, King Cold, and Ize were killed, while Frieza remained a helpless captive. 226 230 285
