Three-Year-Old Scaramouche

Scaramouche frowned. He had never expected to make the list; after all, he was already over five hundred years old.

Because Irminsul had been altered, they had lost their memories of Scaramouche's former self, the Balladeer.

They only knew Scaramouche as an ordinary Haravatat student who received special care from Nahida.

But his age of three and his identity as a puppet with a heart both marked him as extraordinary.

"Balladeer, Kunikuzushi, Wanderer, Scaramouche—these are all your names, and they're all part of your past.

Nefer was stroking a cat as she watched the Sky Screen. A woman sat beside her: Tang Yuehua, the mistress of Moonlight Pavilion.

Tang Yuehua was acting with great caution. She had learned from the Sky Screen that Nefer was no easy person to deal with.

Although Tang Yuehua had years of experience dealing with the nobles of Heaven Dou City, this was her first time dealing with someone like Nefer.

Suddenly, Nefer took Tang Yuehua by the chin, bringing their faces very close.

Nefer stroked Asheru and watched the siblings, Tang Hao and Tang Yuehua, with an amused look.

Tang Hao was just about to say something when the Sky Screen continued to update.

The Sky Screen slowly unfurled its scene. It wasn't a clear image, but a painted scroll. In the scroll, a beautiful woman created a puppet, but the puppet shed a tear.

The woman considered the puppet a failure and abandoned him in a desolate place.

The woman was naturally Raiden Ei, the puppet was the Scaramouche of today, and the abandoned place was Shakkei Pavilion.

Though it was only a painted scroll, it still stirred something deep within Scaramouche.

"If you had destroyed me back then, perhaps none of what came later would have happened, Beelzebul!"

Qian Renxue looked at the Sky Screen, then at Scaramouche. A thought suddenly surfaced in her mind.

Was he abandoned by his mother too?

Then she looked at Bibi Dong, who was lying in the pit. Her disgust and hatred were plain to see.

The scene continued. Someone accidentally wandered into Shakkei Pavilion and found Scaramouche, abandoned there.

Scaramouche wore a golden feather that marked his identity. The intruder didn't know who he was, but knew the golden feather signified a noble status, so he took him back to Tatarasuna.

There, the swordsmiths took good care of him. Like a newborn child, Scaramouche gradually became one of them.

That must have been the happiest time of his life, but the good times didn't last.

The camera pulled back, revealing all of Tatarasuna. Because Crystal Marrow had been used excessively in forging swords, the furnace's core had become contaminated, and many people had died from the pollution.

Niwa sent people out to seek help, but none of them returned.

At the time, Scaramouche took it upon himself to go to Tenshukaku and ask to meet the Raiden Shogun.

Unfortunately, his request for an audience was denied. With no other choice, Scaramouche showed the golden feather, and Yae Miko agreed to meet him.

Yae Miko promised him that she would send people to Tatarasuna to deal with the problem.

But Scaramouche had lost all faith in them. He left the golden feather behind and returned to Tatarasuna alone, only to hear even worse news.

Niwa had fled, guilty of the crime!

Though Scaramouche was enraged by Niwa's betrayal, he still accepted what the mechanic Escher gave him and went to the furnace's core in Tatarasuna. At the cost of burning through five fingers, he forcibly shut it down.

When Yae Miko arrived in Tatarasuna with her people, she saw that the crisis had already been resolved. After learning what had happened, she didn't go to see Scaramouche; she only had someone return the golden feather to him.

At this point, Scaramouche's fists clenched tight.

"Niwa didn't betray me! He shouldn't have to bear such a vile accusation!"

As though it had heard Scaramouche's unspoken plea, the Sky Screen changed scenes. Niwa was with Escher.

Niwa exposed Escher's identity and pointed out that he was the one who had brought about the crisis in Tatarasuna.

Escher stopped pretending. His true identity was Dottore, the Fatui Harbinger known by the codename "the Doctor."

At the sight of Dottore, Scaramouche couldn't hold back a shout.

"Dottore!"

Scaramouche's cry did nothing to change the Sky Screen's scene. Dottore killed Niwa, then cut out his heart.

The heart Scaramouche used to shut down the furnace's core in Tatarasuna had been Niwa's.
