The instant he heard the voice in his mind, Bai Ye became alert and looked toward his side.
Not far away, Smith, who had been operating the machine, was now looking at him with a calm gaze and a smile. He had definitely been taken over by Professor X.
"Sorry, but to speak with you, I may need to borrow your friend's body for a while," Smith said apologetically.
"Professor X?" Bai Ye asked tentatively.
The moment he spoke, a surprised expression appeared on Smith's face. "You know me?"
"I've heard of you. Your telepathy and mind-control abilities are too terrifying to forget."
As Bai Ye spoke, he gently set down the weight in his hand and pressed the machine's emergency stop button.
With a hiss, the entire device immediately stopped operating and released Bai Ye from its restraints.
Feeling his body become incomparably light, Bai Ye slowly stepped down from the machine. Staring at Smith, he asked, "You haven't already peeked into my mind, have you?"
"Of course not." Professor X gently shook Smith's head. "Please believe me. Without permission, I would not casually pry into someone else's memories."
He doesn't casually pry, which means he can seriously pry... Bai Ye grumbled inwardly, though he did believe that Professor X had not invaded his consciousness.
After all, there were far too many things hidden in his mind. If Professor X had seen them, he definitely would not have remained so calm.
He might even have gone insane, like in the story where Deadpool slaughtered the Marvel universe, upon learning that he was supposedly a character from Marvel Comics.
If Professor X truly peeked into other people's minds at will, Hydra hidden within S.H.I.E.L.D. would probably have fought him to the death long ago.
