Background / History

Tsunade is a Senju kunoichi who carries a strong attachment to Konoha and its founding ideals. She is close to Tohka Senju, a senior figure she calls “Grandma,” and is protective of the Senju lineage despite her personal distaste for factional politics. 13 16

Before the events of the novel, Tsunade attempted to cultivate Shikkotsu Forest senjutsu but abandoned the effort out of fear of its lethal failure conditions. Her medical expertise later allows her to devise a safer support method for Yusuke’s own cultivation. 38

Amegakure Reconnaissance

Tsunade leads Yusuke and four other Konoha shinobi into Amegakure to investigate Hanzo’s movements. She and Yusuke enter under the cover of a merchant marriage, gather intelligence through Seiichi’s household, and determine that Amegakure intends to attack the Land of Iron. 1 2 5

After infiltrating the Amegakure Building, Tsunade is ambushed by Hanzo. She destroys the enemy encirclement so her team can escape, then remains behind to buy them time. Hanzo wounds and poisons her, but Yusuke returns to save her. 6 7 8

Trusting Yusuke

Following the Amegakure mission, Tsunade investigates Yusuke’s Root-linked past but chooses to trust him based on his conduct and her own instincts. She then secures Tohka Senju’s support for him, placing him under a powerful Senju elder’s protection and instruction. 11 13 14

Land of Whirlpools Separation

When Yusuke is sent to the Land of Whirlpools under Danzō’s command, Tsunade suspects the assignment is an attempt to isolate and eliminate him. Before departing for a separate border-support mission, she kisses his forehead and promises that they can try being together if he returns alive. 18

Shikkotsu Forest Training

After Yusuke’s return, Tsunade treats his injuries, agrees to help Hyuga Aya’s effort to break the Caged Bird seal, and brings Yusuke to Shikkotsu Forest. There, she protects his meridians through a medical barrier while he cultivates Sage Mode. 36 37 38

Second Shinobi World War Mobilization

As Amegakure declares war on the Five Great Nations, Tsunade joins Konoha’s preparations and attends the war council alongside Yusuke. She is assigned to the Land of Rain’s main battlefield with the medical corps, where Hanzo is expected to be a major threat. 43 45
