Chapter 34: Taking Revenge on Su Bai

"All right, you can go for now. Liang Youde, though, you'll need to be available if we call you in."

In the interrogation room, a young police officer put away his notes and addressed the group.

They were Su Bai's parents, their coworkers, and Liang Youde.

The incident had started because of Liang Youde, so by rights he shouldn't have been allowed to leave.

But his injuries were too severe. His nose and mouth had been bleeding the whole way to the police station, turning him from the assailant into the victim in an instant.

"Officer, please wait!" Su Jianhong hurriedly called after the young officer, then asked ingratiatingly, "How is my son? What can we do to keep him from being detained?"

"He has the college entrance exam in a few days. I can't let him ruin his future because of an old useless man like me!"

"That's easy enough." The young officer put away the notes and pointed at Liang Youde. "As long as he's willing to settle this with you privately, you can pay an administrative fine and leave for now."

"He'll still have a record, but it won't stop your son from taking the college entrance exam."

With the Magic Beasts invading, the Federal Government wasn't what it used to be. Unless someone had committed a particularly heinous crime, the government generally didn't care about ordinary criminal records.

So Su Bai's only chance of taking the college entrance exam was to get Liang Youde's forgiveness. That would give the police station grounds to release him.

Of course, that was the legal route. There were easier ways that weren't quite so proper, but an ordinary person like Su Jianhong wouldn't have access to them.

When Liang Youde realized he held Su Bai's fate in his hands, he immediately grew excited and put on a vicious expression.

"Are you kidding me? Forgive that little bastard? He can dream!"

"Su Jianhong, isn't your son such a tough guy? I'll make him regret it for the rest of his life. He can end up like you, a lowly laborer!"

He had always been petty. Now that he finally had a chance to get back at Su Bai, he wasn't about to let it go!

Not only would he refuse to let it go, he'd find a way to make Su Bai pay an even heavier price!

Liang Youde continued to goad Su Jianhong. "I'm calling my cousin right now. I'll have him find a lawyer to sue your son until he's put away for life!"

His words were full of malice. Even the police officer standing nearby couldn't stand listening to him.

"How can you be so unreasonable? If you hadn't attacked him first, would that kid have hit you? You'll ruin his whole life doing this!"

"Good! I want to ruin him! I absolutely will not settle with them!" Liang Youde spat angrily, then turned and walked out.

Su Jianhong and Lin Xiu'e hurried after him, begging him to show mercy.

"Section Chief Liang, please spare my son. I'll pay you compensation. Name your price, and I'll find a way to pay it!"

Lin Xiu'e was crying so hard that tears and snot ran down her face as she clung to Liang Youde and pleaded. "That's right, Section Chief Liang. We'll sell our house and land if we have to. We'll make it worth your while. Please spare Su Bai!"

"Sell your house? How much could that run-down place of yours fetch? Besides, I don't need your paltry sum. I want your son to pay the price!"

Liang Youde shook Lin Xiu'e's hand off, making it clear there was no room for discussion. He got into his car and drove away.

"It's over! Sob... It's all over!" Lin Xiu'e's vision went dark. She collapsed to the ground and began to wail.

Su Jianhong watched his wife in silence, consumed by regret and blaming himself over and over.

An older police officer brought Su Bai's backpack over and handed it to them with a sigh. "People like him are the hardest to deal with. We only run into someone like that a few times a year. You've just had terrible luck."

"You'd better go home and think of something. You can't let your son's whole life end like this."

Su Jianhong took Su Bai's backpack, helped Lin Xiu'e to her feet, and silently nodded before heading out of the police station.

The couple felt utterly hopeless. They were just ordinary people, barely able to make ends meet. Where could they possibly find help?

"Cousin, that's what happened. I want that kid to pay!" Inside a luxurious villa, Liang Youde, his face bruised and swollen, spoke to a middle-aged man.

The man was Liang Ji. He was in his forties, with an average build and thinning hair. His suit and imposing bearing made it clear he had spent years in a position of power.

Liang Ji stubbed out his cigarette and asked in surprise, "You're still not satisfied even though that kid won't be able to take the college entrance exam?"

"The college entrance exam? What kind of score could the son of a poor nobody get anyway? How much would the exam even matter to him?" Liang Youde pointed at his face, deeply dissatisfied. "Just look at how badly he beat me, Cousin. I won't be able to stomach it if I don't get revenge!"

Liang Ji took a closer look and saw that he really did look awful. "What would make you feel better? He's at the police station now. I can't exactly teach him a lesson myself."

"You don't have to do that. Just make him pay, Cousin!"

"That's easy enough." Liang Ji stood up and made a phone call.

"Right, that's it."

"His name's Su Bai. He may be sent over to you shortly."

"Take good care of him for me. Make sure he spends two months in bed."

In just a few short sentences, Su Bai's fate had been decided. A vicious glint flashed in Liang Youde's eyes.

"You little bastard. I'll make sure you lose a layer of skin this time!"

Yang City Police Station.

"Su Bai, come out." Two men wearing uniforms that looked a little different from those of ordinary police officers called from outside. Su Bai immediately got to his feet.

"Come with us."

"Where are we going?" Su Bai asked, taken aback.

"Where else? The detention center, of course," one of the officers replied calmly.

"The detention center? So soon?" Su Bai didn't really understand the procedure, but something felt off.

"Quit asking questions and hurry up," the other officer urged, seemingly unwilling to explain. Su Bai had no choice but to follow them.

About half an hour later, they brought him to a sealed building made of reinforced concrete.

"What an oppressive feeling!"

The building before him seemed like a man-eating beast. It made the hair on Su Bai's arms stand on end!

"Officer, what is this place?" Su Bai asked warily.

Ever since leaving the police station, he'd felt that something was wrong, but he couldn't put his finger on what.

One of the officers sneered. "We're not police officers. We're with the Ninja Enforcement Squad!"

The Ninja Enforcement Squad!

Su Bai's pupils contracted sharply!

He knew they were the organization responsible for dealing with rogue ninjas!

"And as for this place..." The enforcement officer glanced at the building before them. "It's the Ninja Prison. It's where people like you are locked up."

Su Bai immediately wanted to fight back, but the two enforcement officers beside him suddenly unleashed an overwhelming aura. They were no weaker than Chu Yuan, and Su Bai quickly abandoned the idea.

"Hmph. At least you know when to quit. Get inside!"

One of them sneered and shoved Su Bai inside.

Chapter 35: The Sharingan Awakens

The moment he entered the mysterious building, Su Bai felt as though the Chakra in his body had fallen asleep. He couldn't mobilize it at all, and his expression darkened.

After bringing him there, the two men said a few words to a prison guard. The guard nodded, then shoved Su Bai into a room.

There were seven or eight people in prison uniforms inside. The bald man among them drew the most attention. He sat on the bed by himself while the others stood around him.

"Boss, that's the guy Brother Yang told us about!" A skinny man glanced at the photo in his hand and spoke to the bald man.

The bald man got up and came over to Su Bai. He was burly and nearly two meters tall, like an iron tower, and his presence was intensely intimidating!

"You're Su Bai?"

"And you are?"

"I'm Deng Wei." Deng Wei grinned and slapped Su Bai's shoulder hard with one big hand. "Someone wants you to spend two months in bed. You want to do it yourself, or should I?"

Su Bai narrowed his eyes, immediately understanding.

"Does Liang Youde have that much influence? He managed to go this far?"

Clearly, this was their way of taking revenge on him. He just hadn't expected Liang Youde to have so much pull that he could even get in touch with the Enforcement Squad!

Deng Wei cracked his knuckles, producing a series of sharp pops, and grinned. "Liang Youde? Never heard of him."

"But someone does want you taught a lesson. Be smart and don't fight back."

As he spoke, he suddenly swung a punch at Su Bai's chest!

Su Bai nimbly dodged, moved behind him, and kicked Deng Wei in the back.

Bang!

Deng Wei was caught off guard. He hadn't expected Su Bai to move so fast, and slammed into the iron door.

The prison guard outside heard the commotion, smiled, then lowered his head and went back to playing on his phone, making no move to intervene.

"Not bad, kid. You've got some strength!" The bald man shook his head, dazed from hitting the iron door, and grinned.

Seeing Su Bai fight back, the others immediately swarmed him. There was nowhere to dodge in the cramped room, so Su Bai could only grit his teeth and rely on his fists and feet to defend himself!

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The room descended into chaos. Su Bai was alone, but he had nearly ten cards' worth of Chakra, and it had already strengthened his body imperceptibly.

He was far stronger and faster than the others. Aside from Deng Wei, none of them could compare to him.

"Damn it, I'll have to show you what I can really do!" Seeing his men go down one after another, Deng Wei flew into a rage and put even more force into his blows!

"This is bad. I don't know Taijutsu!" Su Bai struggled desperately to block him.

Deng Wei was much stronger than him physically. Once he got serious, Su Bai couldn't stand against him at all. Su Bai could no longer even see Deng Wei's attacks clearly, and could only dodge frantically around the beds!

Deng Wei kept attacking without success. The longer the fight went on, the angrier he got. At last, he struck with vicious, lethal intent, a pair of iron knuckles that seemed to be fitted with Chakra-conducting equipment on his fist as he aimed a vicious blow at Su Bai's temple!

"I'm done for. I can't dodge!" Seeing the fierce punch, Su Bai's eyes flew wide open.

If that punch landed on his head, he'd either die or be seriously injured!

"Damn it, I have to dodge!"

At that moment, Su Bai's will to survive surged. It was as if something had struck his brain hard, and his mind became intensely focused!

Boom!

Just then, it was as if a hole had been blasted open in his mental sea. A vast amount of spiritual energy poured out, and everything before his eyes became incredibly clear. He could even see the hairs on Deng Wei's fist!

Su Bai tilted his head slightly, dodging Deng Wei's punch by a hair's breadth. Then he swung backhanded and landed a vicious uppercut on his chin!

The sound of a bone breaking rang out with Deng Wei's scream. Su Bai had punched his jaw clean out of place!

"Your... your eyes! They're actually..." The bald man fell to the ground, clutching his jaw and staring at Su Bai's eyes in shock. He seemed so tense he couldn't even finish his sentence!

"My eyes?" Su Bai stared at him in confusion. Before he could figure out what was going on, a line of text suddenly appeared before his eyes.

"You have awakened the Sharingan..."

"You have awakened the Yin Attribute..."

Boom!

Suddenly, an immense mental pressure shot straight into Su Bai's mind. It felt as though someone had smashed him over the head with a hammer. A strange emotion flooded his brain, filling him with excitement!

Boom! He punched one prisoner to the ground, then rushed to another and kicked him flying. His attacks were lethal and vicious, nothing like his usual self!

"Ah, spare us!"

"Stop! You're going to kill someone!"

"We only wanted to teach you a lesson. You can't kill us!"

The prisoners cried out for mercy, but Su Bai's excitement only grew stronger. In the end, he even felt an urge to kill. It was as though a voice kept urging him to kill everyone in the room!
