Background / History

Tang San enrolled at Notting Academy before Ling Yun and shared Dorm Seven with Xiao Wu. He became Yu Xiaogang's disciple and reached level 10 soul power early enough to seek his first soul ring under Yu Xiaogang's guidance. 2 3

When Ling Yun publicly rejected Yu Xiaogang's attempts to recruit him, Tang San defended his teacher's theories and vowed that he would eventually surpass Ling Yun. 3 Ling Yun later proposed a duel: if Tang San won, Ling Yun would acknowledge Yu Xiaogang as his teacher; if he lost, Yu Xiaogang would stop pestering Ling Yun. 7

Tang San fought with Blue Silver Grass, Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track, Mysterious Jade Hand, and his Datura Snake-derived Entangle skill. Ling Yun's Divine Wood Ape transformation turned Tang San's Blue Silver Grass against him and bound him with Wood Vine Entanglement, ending the duel in Ling Yun's victory. 7

Rather than give up, Tang San repeatedly challenged Ling Yun over the following two years, paying one Gold Soul Coin for each loss. After gaining his second soul ring, he remained determined to defeat him. 8 At Ling Yun's graduation, Tang San and Xiao Wu challenged him together, but Ling Yun's Flame Crane form burned through Tang San's Blue Silver Grass and defeated them without directly injuring either of them. 12 13

Four years later, Tang San reunited with Ling Yun while traveling with the Shrek Seven Devils. By then, Ling Yun had reached Soul King level while Tang San remained at level 29. Tang San joined Dai Mubai, Xiao Wu, Zhu Zhuqing, and Ning Rongrong in a group spar against Ling Yun, ultimately surrendering after Ling Yun redirected Tang San's hidden weapons and Xiao Wu was injured by the returning Dragon Whisker Needles. 48 49 50

Personality

Tang San is fiercely competitive and refuses to accept defeat by Ling Yun as final. After each loss, he recommits himself to cultivation and promises to challenge Ling Yun again. 8 13

He is loyal to Yu Xiaogang and initially places great faith in his teacher's theories, even when Ling Yun openly dismisses Yu Xiaogang's qualifications. 3 7 Tang San also prioritizes Xiao Wu's safety: he concedes the battle against Ling Yun after the redirected Dragon Whisker Needles injure her. 50
