Admissions and Student Life
- Shrek is widely regarded as a supreme destination for Soul Masters; admission is portrayed as a route out of ordinary life for successful applicants 3.
- Entry to the outer courtyard is described as requiring substantial registration and tuition fees, exceptional Soul Master talent, and a recommendation from a city-lord-level figure 3.
- These barriers effectively favor wealthy and noble applicants; the broadcast states that even talented commoner Soul Masters are ordinarily unable to enter 3.
- Outer-courtyard freshmen are housed in cramped, dusty two-bed rooms with hard plank beds and little furniture; Huo Yuhao compares the condition unfavorably to a doghouse 369.
- The academy possesses simulated cultivation environments and more advanced technology, but its leadership is depicted as reserving such resources for the inner courtyard rather than ordinary outer-courtyard students 4.
- The academy publicly promotes broad Soul Master education, while its upper leadership privately regards the outer courtyard as a filtering ground and only inner-courtyard entrants as “true” Shrek members 4.
Organization and Educational Practices
- The academy is divided into at least an Outer Court and an Inner Court; the Sea God Pavilion functions as its senior leadership body 4 39.
- Yan Shaozhe serves as dean of the Martial Soul Department and holds authority to grant exceptional core-disciple status and allocate cultivation resources 374.
- Freshman assessments determine core-disciple treatment. In one broadcasted case, Huo Yuhao’s team won the assessment, yet he was only granted provisional treatment rather than formal Core Disciple status 4.
- Zhou Yi’s outer-courtyard teaching includes forcing children to run fifty laps, punishing students who did not fight, and expelling pupils who skipped laps 3 4.
- Students are also shown running while carrying iron chains; outside observers condemn the practice as dangerous and demeaning 4.
- Shrek’s senior personnel justify extreme training as a means of producing “monsters” and cultivating absolute institutional loyalty 4.
- In a later-era entrance examination, candidates face ten items worth 100 points total; 60 points qualify for the Outer Court, while 85 are required for an Inner Court supplementary examination 154.
- The later entrance tests include mental-pressure, soul-beast combat, adaptability, and secondary-profession assessments 154 155 159.
Facilities and Assets
- Sea God Pavilion — Shrek’s senior administrative and combat center; renamed Yuhao Pavilion after the academy’s surrender to the Body Sect in one timeline 39.
- Sea God Lake — Major academy landmark; renamed Undying Lake in the same timeline 39.
- Golden Tree — Sacred academy site bearing statues and serving as a place of public humiliation after Shrek’s defeat; it is later cut apart for laboratory analysis in the Federation timeline 39 86.
- Mimicry Cultivation Zone — High-grade cultivation area normally reserved for inner-courtyard disciples; Huo Yuhao receives access after Yan Shaozhe’s personal intervention 375.
- Soul Engineering Department — A smaller academy department associated with He Caitou/Xu He; Sun Moon authorities consider its limited size advantageous for investigation 69.
History
Huo Yuhao’s Initial Enrollment
Huo Yuhao joins the Tang Sect and enters Shrek through its recommendation. His arrival initially reinforces the continent’s admiration for Shrek, but the broadcast of his living conditions and Zhou Yi’s classroom discipline causes widespread public outrage 3 4.
During the freshman assessment, Huo Yuhao’s team defeats stronger opponents and wins the championship. Despite this, he is excluded from the formal Core Disciple list and given only temporary core-disciple treatment, an outcome that damages Shrek’s reputation for fairness 4.
After Huo Yuhao reveals Ultimate Ice talent, Yan Shaozhe personally recruits him into the Martial Soul Department, promising exceptional treatment, including support for Wang Dong and Xiao Xiao, high-quality soul bones, and a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Ring 5 6. Later broadcasts state that the promised rings and soul bones never materialize, while Huo Yuhao repeatedly risks himself for Shrek’s interests 10.
Tournament Controversies
Shrek’s team enters the All-Continent Youth Soul Master Competition under Elder Xuan’s leadership. A confrontation with the Death Messenger nearly destroys the team after Xuan’s negligence leads them into danger 6 7.
Broadcasted tournament footage depicts Shrek personnel using manipulation, prohibited fixed-load Soul Tool shells, and threats against officials to preserve the academy’s victories. Xuan also seizes the Sun Moon team’s level-eight melee Soul Tool, the Sword of Judgment, and dismisses the value of slain Sun Moon students compared with Ma Xiaotao 7 8.
In another timeline, Huo Yuhao exposes He Caitou’s use of a Miniature Fixed Soul Tool Shell and reveals that he is Xu He, a former Sun Moon crown prince. Shrek is disqualified, stripped of its runner-up standing, and subjected to an Imperial Ministry of Justice investigation 68 69.
Conflict with the Sun Moon Empire
Following an exchange-student program, Huo Yuhao uses his Shrek affiliation to conduct espionage in the Sun Moon Empire, stealing research results and the Snow Empress embryo 8. Suspicion of Shrek graduates subsequently leads multiple factions to investigate former students as potential spies 9.
Huo Yuhao’s team later infiltrates Ming Capital’s underground arsenal and detonates it, causing a catastrophic explosion. Elder Xuan rescues the group, and the academy’s response is portrayed as a brief reprimand rather than meaningful accountability 9 10.
The academy nominally controls the Spirit Pagoda’s Soul Spirit technology while Huo Yuhao holds the largely ceremonial title of First Honorary Pagoda Master 10.
Body Sect Subordination
In the Body Sect timeline, Huo Yuhao defeats the Shrek Team alone in a tournament final and later begins a campaign against Shrek after its members ambush him during the Body Sect’s war against the Sun Moon Empire and Holy Spirit Cult 37 38.
Over approximately one year, Shrek loses most of its remaining teachers and students to Huo Yuhao’s attacks; its population falls from more than ten thousand personnel to fewer than two thousand. Xiao Xiao, Xian Lin’er, and Elder Xuan are captured and crippled, with Xuan later dying from his injuries 38 39.
To preserve the institution, Yan Shaozhe agrees to Shrek’s incorporation under the Body Sect. The academy becomes Body Sect Affiliated Shrek Academy, its symbols are replaced, its founders’ statues are toppled, and Sea God Pavilion is renamed Yuhao Pavilion 39.
Shrek’s nominal survival is short-lived. During the Sun Moon Empire’s continental unification war, Shrek City and the academy are destroyed by explosions after Sun Moon forces eliminate the city’s remaining defenders 40.
Federation Abolition
In a separate Sun Moon Federation timeline, Shrek tacitly cooperates with black-robed forces in the Heaven Spirit Empire while investigators ignore atrocities at “Flesh Workshop” sites 81 84. When the Federation attacks Shrek City, the academy’s defenders include Mu En, Xuan, Sea God Pavilion elders, allied powerhouses, and Title Douluo-level Evil Soul Masters 84.
After Xuan’s death and Yan Shaozhe’s surrender, Huo Yuhao announces the formal abolition of Shrek Academy and Sea God Pavilion. Its land, archives, and secret stores are confiscated for the National Central Martial Soul Research Academy and the Federation’s largest Spirit Pagoda headquarters 85.
The Golden Tree is dismantled for research, while the former academy site is rebuilt under a system that lowers enrollment barriers and rejects Shrek’s “monsters only” doctrine 86.
Later-Era Spirit Pagoda Conflict
Ten thousand years later, Shrek remains active and receives a Spirit Pagoda exchange group led by an avatar of Huo Yuhao. The group repeatedly humiliates academy staff during the entrance examinations, including when Tang Wulin destroys a Golden-Eyed Black Dragon King mural used in the mental-pressure test 154 155.
Although Cai Yue’er awards the group zero points for claiming vegetable farming as their secondary profession, their previous scores and Spirit Pagoda pressure secure their enrollment 159. Shrek’s later survival-and-competition examination sends students toward Ming Capital without money, but Spirit Pagoda exchange students retain their funds under Federal Diplomatic Law 160.
The conflict escalates when Huo Yuhao converts Shrek students Ye Xinglan, Yuanen Yehui, and Xu Xiaoyan into human Soul Spirits. Further Shrek students are captured through a false mission in Ming Capital and sold through the Spirit Pagoda Underground Auction House 162 163.
Huo Yuhao’s Infiltration
In another timeline, Huo Yuhao and Tang Ya infiltrate Shrek using a genuine Tang Sect exemption recommendation letter under false identities. Huo Yuhao is assigned to Freshman Dormitory Building 108 while Tang Ya is placed in the old-student dormitories 368.
After Huo Yuhao triggers a golden-grade second awakening of his spiritual-type Body Martial Soul, Yan Shaozhe exempts him from the freshman assessment, reserves him as an inner-courtyard Core Disciple, and promises him Shrek’s highest resources 374. The academy overlooks Huo Yuhao’s violent treatment of Zhou Yi because of his exceptional value, demonstrating that its protections extend most strongly to prized geniuses 375.
