Background

According to his father, Yu Yuanzhen, Yu Xiaogang left the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan years earlier because of his poor aptitude. He subsequently spent decades studying spirit-master theory and developed the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul, building a reputation as a theoretical authority despite being unable to advance beyond level 29 Soul Power. 42 45 50

Yu Xiaogang became associated with Blue Tyrant Academy and Shrek Academy, where he taught students including Tang San. He treated Tang San’s twin martial souls, early advancement, and absorption of an unusually old first soul ring as proof of his theories. 17 45 46

Personality

Yu Xiaogang is intensely proud of his theoretical work and repeatedly presents himself as a defender of truth, justice, and the common people. At Tang Yu’s banquet, he publicly denounces Tang Yu’s rule, demands the dissolution of the Black Horse Iron Cavalry, and insists that theory can defeat brute force. 40 41 45

His confidence is paired with a tendency to dismiss Tang Yu’s achievements as unstable or improperly guided. He believes his Spirit Core Theory can persuade Tang Yu to release Zhu Zhuqing and even make Tang Yu submit to him. 15 16

Despite his rhetoric, Yu Xiaogang abandons Liu Erlong outside Wuyang Mansion when he senses Tang Yu’s killing intent, then attempts to excuse his retreat as a search for reinforcements. Liu Erlong ultimately rejects him as a coward. 18 20

Attempt to retrieve Zhu Zhuqing

Yu Xiaogang offers Shrek Academy hope by proposing that Liu Erlong negotiate with Tang Yu for Zhu Zhuqing’s release. He expects his Spirit Core Theory to serve as leverage, but Tang Yu dismisses his work as worthless. 11 16 17

When Liu Erlong confronts Tang Yu, Yu Xiaogang abandons her outside Wuyang Mansion. After she later reveals that she has chosen Tang Yu, Yu Xiaogang blames Tang Yu while concealing his own flight. 18 20 23

Blue Silver King Mansion confrontation

Yu Xiaogang attends Tang Yu’s banquet intending to undermine him. He publicly calls Tang Yu a tyrant, claims the title of the continent’s foremost theory master, and urges the gathered powers to resist. 37 40

His defiance prompts Yu Yuanzhen to sever their father-son relationship and expel him from the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. Xue Qinghe then orders the Black Horse Iron Cavalry to beat Yu Xiaogang into submission. 42 43

Theory debate and downfall

After being beaten, Yu Xiaogang challenges Tang Yu to a public debate on martial soul theory. He wagers that he will admit to fraud and sever his right arm if Tang Yu refutes him. 45

Tang Yu dismantles Yu Xiaogang’s Blue Silver Grass theory and reveals himself to be a teenage level 94 Titled Douluo. Yu Xiaogang’s plagiarism is exposed, his reputation collapses, and his right arm is severed under the terms of the wager. 46 47

Desperate resistance and final despair

Yu Xiaogang later fights beside Flender using their incomplete Martial Soul Fusion Skill, but Tang Yu destroys it effortlessly. 51

He eventually returns to the ruins of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, only to find the clan annihilated and Yu Yuanzhen mortally wounded. Tang Yu further destroys Yu Xiaogang’s remaining hope by revealing Tang San’s death and Bibi Dong’s fall from power. 73 74
