Background / History

A civilian-born Konoha ninja, Matsumoto became a jōnin five years before Team 7's formation through solid fundamentals and the accumulated experience of numerous C- and B-rank missions. He has no known bloodline limit or signature technique and is regarded as lower-middle tier among jōnin. 8

He was appointed Team 7's instructor, overseeing Uchiha Ryūha, Haruno Kazuya, and Fujiwara Itsuki. Initially, Matsumoto viewed Ryūha as a troublesome prodigy overly reliant on an unstable bloodline ability. He deliberately emphasized discipline, fundamentals, execution, and mundane mission work to temper him. 8 9 10
