That directly led to another problem: once he was discovered, even with Gin's decent driving skills, shaking off Shuichi Akai, whose driving was equally superb, became an impossible task.
"Mr. Akai—" Conan clutched the door handle tightly, as though even the seat belt could no longer give him a sense of security. His voice was stretched taut, as if he would be flung away the moment he relaxed his vocal cords even slightly. "Slow down, just a little—"
To pull off such a thrilling chase in such narrow alleys, it seemed that the claim that Shuichi Akai had once been one of the Organization's top code-named members was indeed no exaggeration. He was an honest man; there had been no padding in that statement.
But then again, was this part of our plan? Was it?
"This is no time to let up." Perhaps noticing the planner's subtle confusion, Shuichi Akai jerked the steering wheel, the amusement in his voice undiminished. "Gin isn't someone easily fooled. If we want him to believe everything that comes next, we have to go all out. That guy likes comparing people to rats, but he himself is a snake even harder to catch than one."
