The mages present looked at Rainer, their hearts filled with mixed emotions.
Some were astonished by his youthful appearance. Others felt uneasy at the brilliance of someone their own age. A few more open-minded female mages had already taken an interest in the handsome young man, intending to invite him out after the meeting and spend the night together.
Before that, however, everyone was more concerned with another question: what exactly had this mage apprentice discovered?
The gloomy weather outside contrasted with the flickering lights in the conference hall. At the boundary between light and shadow, Rainer walked forward step by step.
Rainer was honestly only pretending to be calm. He had never expected his paper to be circulated into the hands of a legendary mage, much less for the other party to value it so highly. Rainer slowly approached the podium, and the legendary mage extended a hand to him. Rainer gently returned the handshake.
"Your paper on the electrolysis of water is truly wonderful. Perhaps it is the finest paper I have seen in the past ten years."
Lanchester said softly, wearing a kindly smile.
"You flatter me, Lord Stanien. I merely stood upon the shoulders of giants and was fortunate enough to achieve such a minor accomplishment."
Rainer glanced at Cornwall, who stood behind Lanchester. He had indeed begun designing his water electrolysis experiment only after reading Cornwall's paper on electrolysis, so there was nothing wrong with those words.

Lanchester looked at Rainer with great appreciation, then took a step back and left the vast podium to him.
