South Plum Garden was founded during the Song Dynasty and had originally been one of the Jiangnan-style gardens planned by the Nine Provinces Wind and Thunder Sword Sect.
There were many female elders and senior disciples in the Nine Provinces Wind and Thunder Sword Sect. From time to time, they inevitably gathered to brawl, leaving the Sect Master unable to fend them off, or engaged in verbal sparring that left the Sect Master struggling alone. Thus, arranging accommodations for the disciples had always been a key issue in need of resolution.
As a result, building and assigning a large number of high-end residences became a temporary solution.
Although there were many further disputes over the residences' grades, locations, designs, expenses, and so on, the plan was fortunately implemented.
Yet before South Plum Garden was completed, the Sect Master had already sailed eastward. Many gardens across Jiangnan today, whose origins and sources of funding could no longer be verified, were mostly remnants left behind by the Nine Provinces Wind and Thunder Sword Sect.
Fortunately, once the high-end residence allocation plan began, dedicated funds had already been placed in escrow for payment. Construction of South Plum Garden continued until the end of the Song Dynasty, when its main structure was completed. It then lay dormant for a century, and by the time renovations resumed, it was already in the hands of Su Mei's ancestors.
After centuries of repairs and expansion, South Plum Garden covered an enormous area, with several Buddhist halls and Daoist temples within it. But neither the Ye Chenyu of those days nor the present-day Liu Chang'an knew when a monastery had also been built beside it.
