When Liu Chang'an woke up in the morning, he habitually rolled over, intending to lie on his stomach for a while. Instead, he found himself propped up, so he casually did a few half push-ups before sitting up.
He checked his phone. Unable to hold back any longer, An Nuan had finally messaged him, asking why, when she had driven Liu Chang'an back yesterday, it had felt as though he shared some inexplicable tacit understanding with the other two professors.
Liu Chang'an smiled. He had noticed yesterday that she had stopped herself from speaking several times. He had thought she could hold out until they met before asking, but she had still ended up sending a text.
"Your mother didn't want me staying the night because it would affect her sleep, but she couldn't exactly say she was kicking me out, so she said she still wanted to go shopping in Hedong after dinner. Naturally, being so perceptive, I went along with it and said she could drop me off somewhere along the way... As for Professor Ling, she probably overheard us through the wall one night and didn't sleep well either. She was even less able to say anything about it, but the tacit understanding between Professor Liu and me happened to align with some of her wishes too."
Liu Chang'an explained that everyone was an adult. Adults could understand and accommodate those subtle little thoughts and nuances without needing them spelled out. As long as everyone understood, they could avoid much of the awkwardness and misunderstanding that came with saying things outright.
An Nuan was still, after all, a young girl. But she was An Nuan, and being able to pick up on that sort of unspoken exchange already put her far ahead of most girls her age.
