Legend had it,
After Theseus defeated the Minotaur,
that very night, Theseus fled with Princess Ariadne.
Passing through Naxos, the Goddess of Fate told him in a dream:
"Your love is not blessed. Your union can bring only misfortune."
After waking, Theseus understood that though he deeply loved the princess, he lacked the power to oppose the gods.
He woke the boys and girls who had come with him, and as the first light of dawn illuminated the earth, they sailed away from Naxos, leaving Ariadne asleep.
When Ariadne woke, she found herself abandoned on a deserted island, lost and heartbroken.
Her cries followed the ship as it fled like an arrow, while she hoped and waited for Theseus to look back.
This broke Ariadne's heart, yet as she watched the one she loved sail away, she could do nothing.
Just then, Dionysus appeared.
It was fate's arrangement, and they fell in love.
Dionysus personally placed a magnificent crown set with seven crystal-clear gems upon his beloved's head...
Yet Ariadne was only mortal.
At last, one day, she left Dionysus forever.
Dionysus wandered the island for a long time with that crown in hand, devastated by grief.
Then, the crown suddenly rose into the air and flew into the heavens, becoming Corona Borealis among the stars.
When it came to love, Theseus was no hero.
As for why that was said—
King Minos marveled at their martial prowess and prepared a victory feast for them.
Though Thaumas noticed Minos's melancholy and sorrow, overall, the outcome was still good.
Afterward, Ariadne found Thaumas and asked him for a favor.
"Hero, could I ask you to persuade Theseus for me? He refuses to take me away. I like him. I want to be with him."
